My daughter, Robin . . . aka "Birdie" (here on the forum) just returned from a week long glamping trip. Of course, my glamping doggie, Bramble, went with us too. We were at Cayton Campground which is a Forest Service campground at an elevation of 9300 feet, north of Rico, Colorado, just as you start climbing to the 10,000 foot summit of Lizard Head Pass. It is in the MOST STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL Colorado Rocky Mountains, San Juan Range.

At that elevation the nights and first thing in the morning are cool, even downright chilly. I'm thankful we aren't in such drought conditions this year that campfires are banned. That has been the case in a few previous years. So, yup, I was the fire builder person and built one every morning and every evening . . . for a total of FOURTEEN campfires.

The campground isn't real large, and has some very nice, roomy campsites many of which have electrical hookups. So, we took our little "Reiver's Rest" Glamper trailer, plugged it in and had mini-light strands strung all around to create nice night lighting.

We set up the EZ-Up canopy and decorated it with linens and lacy things and rugs. We decked out the trailer with lacy things and window boxes. We use vintage cloth tablecloths, napkins, REAL dishes, glassware, silverware . . . all kinds of things that make it girly, glampy and fun!

I will post some pics later . . . so you'll have to come back!
And, I'll tell you some more tales of which there are many. . . so you'll have to come back.
Thanks for letting me share!

Debbie,
You'd be most welcome at our glampsite. Maybe someday it'll happen. I sure need to go again! Right now I'm not sure I want to be in the mountains because we've had some major rain and by the looks of the Dolores River on Saturday it's rained a lot in the mountains. The river is running pretty roily, which is more typical of spring run-off. I'm not fond of camping in the rain!

Hey Bonnie, Have you seen this link to live streaming of the Headwaters http://www.parkrapidsdowntown.com/contents/webcams/webcam5.php Just like being there: ) It's fun to watch "live" the people milling around.

I was at the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Itasca park last weekend. They had terrible windstorms that twisted trees and caused a lot of damage. There were a lot of frightened people because there was no warning. Glad I was NOT camping. But our weather was beautiful. It brought back many wonderful camping memories. Stay safe everyone.

Awwww, Gracie, thanks for posting those pics. Yes, fun and fond memories! We set up our "sitting room" differently these days with the trailer. It's actually more of a sitting room than a kitchen/pantry area. When we used the tent we had to set it up for kitchen/pantry stuff too.

Oh CJ, I know I am not your Birdie but, if I lived closer I would love to go glamping with you for few days in your Sweet camper. Maybe by a stream or creek, what fun we would have hiking, catching up and just having fun! Oh can y'all tell how much I need and want some gal time and glamping!
I have not even been able to go fishing this year.
Summer is not over yet, we will see..

I was walking by the trailer today thinking that it would be so nice to take her out again this summer . . . but I don't want to do it without my daughter. She lives 400 miles away, is a teacher and has gone back to work!

yep,, getting to hot to sleep out in the trailer,,, unless I turn on the fan..
Plus where I have my trailer parked,,, the acorns keep falling of the Oak trees and hit the roof,,, so I got to hear the 'tinking' of acorns hitting my roof thru out the nite!
Got to weekend camping venues coming up, 1 in Sept and one in Oct...
The October one will be on the Property of the 'Hearst Ranch" in San Simeon, The property of Wm. Randolf Hearst,,, The (non tourist part) is managed by the great grandson of Wm. R. Hearst... It is a several thousand ac cattle ranch... It will be fun,,, might get a little trail riding in,,, hopefully.

Ceejay, I envy you. I need to get brave and just take off. I want to sell our big camper and get one I can drive so I don't have to back or worry about what I am towing. I did go to the lake with a friend a couple of weekends ago and learned to kayak and loved it. I think I could get into the glampor thing. Glad you can have time away with your daughter.

Winnie,
Those s'mores WERE awesome! Robin and I are going to remember the shortbread idea and I make really yummy shortbread!
Sharon ("Calicogirl") makes awesome marshmallows too! We don't use marshmallows from the store anymore. If we don't have Sharon's we just don't have s'mores!

Boy, I just wanna go to the mountains again! It's been so danged hot . . . UGH!!!
But it's summer thunderstorm season and that means t-storms in the mountains with lightning . . . DANGEROUS, to say the least . . . and mountain rain! I don't really like to camp in the rain.
Hoping to be able to go later in August and/or September . . .BEFORE hunters hit the hills!

P.S. Our reservations are not at this same campground, but at a privately owned campground that we've stayed at before, Priest Gulch Campground. It's a little closer to home, but still in "my mountains" along the Dolores River. It will cost a bit more, but we'll have showers, laundry facilities, camp store . . .with soft serve ice cream . . and firewood is provided. We'll probably set up our loo tent, however, since our site is wa-a-a-ayy down at the end and it's quite a hike to the restroom for daytime use.
Actually reserved the site next to the one we used before . . . full hookups!

And, the shortbread made them even more special!

Injured my toe on a metal milk crate. Robin, my "nurse", doctored me up with gauze, Bag Balm and glamper trailer duct tape! Was much more camping durable than a bandaid. (Pretty significant gouge on the bottom of my toe AND a blood blister) UGH!
