Good evening everyone,

Please send thoughts out for my brother Jon who is on his way to the hospital to have a liver transplant. A match has finally been found. He has waited more than 5 years.

Our family's genetic line has polycystic disease. Our sister gave him a kidney 18 years ago.

With the cysts on his liver they are estimating his current liver weighs 35 - 40 pounds. I told him this was a helluva way to lose weight. We are very excited and nervous that he has finally been called.

He is a kind compassionate man who marches to the beat of his own drum.

Thank you for all your thoughts.

I am glad he is healing and feels good enough to complain. He needs to be where my mom was--she complained about getting too much food.I pray he continues to improve and is home soon.

Sending prayers for Jon. And you, too. It is so stressful having major surgery and then complications. I pray all will continue to go well.

Hugs, Nancy

Good afternoon,

Jon is at the Rehab facility. He is eating and exercising. and complaining to the staff. He is on the mend. He is 6' 6" tall and for breakfast on day they gave him two sausage patties and 8 grapes. For lunch they gave him a salad and a bowl of fruit. He spoke to the nutritionist and now he is getting enough food to give him energy to heal adn gain strength.

Thank you for all your thoughts for him.

Good afternoon everyone,

Jon called on his own day before yesterday. He has been moved off the ICU floor to the med surg floor. He believes one of the anti biotics he is given affects his speech. It is raspy, high pitched and soft. He said he is sleeping better because the new bed is more comfortable.

I hope he keeps improving.

Thank you for all your caring thoughts.

Good afternoon,

Jon has been moved to a different floor. I think it must be a med surg floor but he did not know. He slept better last night. He said the new bed is far more comfortable than the previous one. He called this morning and it has been more than a week since he called last so I think he must be feeling some better. He has been sitting up in a chair and eating his meals. He has not gone for walks in the halls yet. A step at a time.

Thank you for you r continued thoughts.

Good evening everyone,

Jon called today. He was sitting up in the chair and he was allowed to eat. He is very sore and without a lot of energy. The nurse yesterday said he was sad and angry about having a colostomy bag.

I hope this puts him on the road to recovery that is smooth.

Good evening everyone,

Well, I guess recovery was not going as smoothly as I had been led to believe. But, I guess when you feel awful you do not always know where the awful is coming from.

The doctors did a CAT scan on his abdomen and determined that some part of his digestive tract was leaking into his abdominal cavity. So, they went in to have a look see three nights ago. They determined the leak was in his large intestine. Now, he has a temporary colostomy. I do not know for how long. The nurse s on the floor report that he is resting comfortably. I hope he wakes up soon so we can speak with him.

Thank you all for keeping him in your thoughts.

Hello,

Jon has been sitting up in a chair to eat his meals. He walks to the toilet with assistance. He said he has tubes coming out of his abdomen so it is hard to walk by himself.

Thank you for asking and thinking of him daily.

Good evening everyone,

It has been two days more than a week since he had his surgery.

Jon is doing well considering the operation. He sent my daughter a picture of his abdomen. The cut goes from one side to the other about 3 inches below his rib cage and then in the middle a cut goes up towards his rib cage. He is 6' 6 " tall so imagine the size. He is not complaining about the incision. He is complaining about his throat. He had a tube down his throat to keep his stomach cleaned out so that he would not aspirate. Still today he said his throat hurt. I told him to ask for tea with honey and maybe that would help.

Tonight he is supposed to be moving from the ICU to the MedSurg floor. I think that must be a good sign

He is complaining about the bed being uncomfortable. At home he has a California king to sleep on.

I guess since he has enough energy to complain now he must be getting better. I do not know how much longer he will be in the hospital. He has had no sign of rejection.

Thank you for asking.
