We do quite a bit of geocaching. Go to geocaching.com to view some "how to" videos. This is a great activity and takes you to many fun places.

Both of these sound fun. I checked out Jana's link. Looks like I need to sign up first. I think I will and give this a try.

Sara, go to Atlasquest. From there you can search each state for boxes. You can also create an account and then register your finds. I love to look for boxes when I travel. Great way to see the local flavor.

Julie the letterboxing sounds fun! I've never heard of that before. How do you know where to look?

I looked into geocaching some years ago when I first heard about it. I found the info online, along with a list of locations of caches. I found there was one within two miles of my rural house, so I went out and found it a left my mark on the paper inside. It was great fun, and I can see how it could be addicting.

I have family members who do high Sierra backpacking and they have found caches at the tops of mountains without actually looking for them.

I do letterboxing, which is without the use of a gps. You have a personal logbook and a stamp, when you find the box, the box contains a stamp and logbook. Many box owners carve their own stamps, it is amazing to see what some people have done.
Geocaching uses coordinates, you follow the GPS till you come within the range of the box. The box contains trinkets, you take one and leave one. I prefer letterboxing as it is stamps and more in tune to nature.

Good morning Diana,

I have never done Geocaching, but I fell upon an object at a state park in Maine while hiking. It looks like fun, you search for items using your smartphone GPS and upon finding the item, you can take it and leave something of your own or leave the original item for someone else to find. You register your finds at https://www.geocaching.com or any other similar website. Items are usually small charms, patches, decorative pins, etc.

Hey Diana,,,
I have never done it,,, but have friends who have and love it.
I am not sure how you start,,, internet maybe???
Once you get the corordinance (sp)... you use that to find the location,, when you find the object,,, you leave a message or something...
Have you searched 'Geocaching' on the wed?
