I've planted 6 seedlings. Some mini tomatoes. There are no signs of slugs, but 4 of the smallest plants disappeared. No signs of trauma.. I'm stumped. My wienerdogs keeps rabbits out of the garden area so I've ruled out the furry one.
Any ideas? I live in the NW, we don't have snails. Do squirrels eat little plants?

Did not do well this year in my veggie garden. Only a few tomatoes, cukes and squirrels ate what was left. Then hurricane Harvey came through runied my late summer crop. Bummer. Cleaned it all up and tilled yesterday.

Yes, squirrels are a menace!! Very disappointing. I've also had ancho peppers disappear . . . whole peppers, not mature yet! Have NOT harvested one pepper or zucchini this year. The one zucchini plant I had got powdery mildew so, since squirrels had massacred it I just dug it up and threw in the trash! I have two eggplant plants and have gotten TWO eggplants total!

Discouraging!

My plants are in raised beds. But I am wondering about squirrels.

Hi Sisters,
Maybe it is a mole or gopher. I do see the Northern Idaho squirrels eating all kinds of weeds and wildflowers here. They are voracious and eat much of the plants in our meadow area. I have seen them "eying" my garden. We ended up putting chicken wire around my planter boxes in addition to the fencing. We also laid chicken wire down in the garden boxes first, then weed cloth, then the soil. We have had no gophers in the garden since doing this.
Have fun gardening.

Sylvia - I have no clue, but mine are disappearing too, as did my tomatillos! We have six foo fencing around it, so no deer, hardwire around the bottom, so no rabbits. I'm clueless!!!
