My 72-year-old father suffered a massive stroke Wednesday night, slipped into a coma on Friday morning, and died Friday evening. I was unable to make it back to Indiana from Washington before he passed. In fact, my connecting flight to Indianapolis was getting ready to take off in Salt Lake City when I found out that he had died. That was the worst 3 hour flight of my life.

I am devasted. My emotions bounce from sobbing to numb and back again. My mother and brother are shaken, and my half-siblings were vacationing on a cruise and didn't get word until last night that he'd died. We're having a memorial service for him on Wednesday as he wanted to be cremated.

If you are the praying kind, please send up prayers of strength for us. If you don't pray, we'd appreciate positive thoughts right now. My heart is broken and I don't know how I'm going to function normally without him. Even from over 2000 miles away, we connected regularly and were close. The sunshine in my life has gotten so much dimmer.

Thank you for all the wonderful messages, everyone. We had his memorial service today and it was painful and hard and I cried buckets. I fly back home tomorrow evening and then we all have to work on moving forward with our lives. It's very, very hard as I was a daddy's girl.

Although you will never forget your father, it will get easier. I lost my dad fifteen years ago and miss him terribly. Hang in there and remember we are all praying for you and the family. Hugs!
