Posted - Sep 08 2017 : 05:51:00 AM NOTE: When you join in, please "Subscribe" to this topic so that you will receive all communication regarding the topic.
This swap involves no sewing (your project is determined by what you want to make with your fabric squares) - only buying fabric and cutting it into 10" squares. Please buy 100% cotton quilting fabric and cut off both selvage edges before cutting squares so there is NO selvage in the 10" squares. (NOTE: The selvages are the two tightly woven edges of the fabric - opposite the folded edge.)
This swap is for 10" squares of stripe Fabrics. Each person who signs up will send 2 different 10" squares of 100% cotton stripe fabric to each farm girl who signs up. A yard of fabric will make 12 squares (with a little left over), so the amount of fabric you will need to purchase will depend on how many sign up. Please join in - all are welcome.
Signups begin today: today, Sept 8 Signups end: Noon, Friday, Sept 29 Mail out no later than: Friday, October 14
When you sign up, please immediately send me your name/address/phone. The name/address is so I can send a complete list to each farm girl for mailing out to everyone; the phone number is only in case I need to contact you for any reason.
We have been enjoying these swaps and it is fun seeing all the different fabrics we choose. I hope you will join us.
We all like to hear from you when you send out fabric and when you receive fabric. And please post pics of what you make in the Showcase thread. You can go to the "Showcase" thread for using this link. http://maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=73817
Sign-ups: Linda (quiltee) Marilyn (Texas Gran) Katie (farmgirl68) Darlene (doctordar) Cristy (Quiltwright) Rebecca (Beccalou) Melinda (Momofseven) Denise (Denise Ann) Deborah (Buzzn Bee)

Posted - Oct 26 2017 : 07:34:47 AM Darlene, when I was five years out my oncologist told me very few survive ovarian/peritoneal cancer. He then said God left me here for a purpose. Next he asked if I was doing what God wanted. I told him I was trying. My oncologist went through chemo at the same time as me. I don't remember what he had. He has three young kids less than 12. I'm glad God spared him too.

Posted - Oct 26 2017 : 06:35:29 AM Marilyn, I too had a bout with cancer. I was off work from January to August in 2011 with surgery and chemo for ovarian cancer. Good to see a sister in the survivor's club! It makes one grateful for each and every day and I take none of my friends and family for granted. It certainly was a learning experience on many levels.
Linda, there is something about fabric and educators! With the taught in the past tense, I am guessing you are retired now?

Posted - Oct 24 2017 : 10:50:25 AM I taught elementary kids for my thirty years. 16 of those with first graders. The last seven years I was asked to teach art. That was so much fun and a good way to see school kids in a different way. No behavioral issues. They all loved art. They would stop me in the halls and ask what we were making or doing that day or week. ...I started the masters program but after eighteen hours, I had cows to milk, a bus to drive and two grade levels to teach...So I never finished. I retired to be my three year old granddaughters babysitter. Her baby sister arrived in late August, and I was very busy. When baby sister was three I started a mother's day out program at a local church. She went with me. After two years we added after school care connected with daycare. Three and a half years later, 43 part time workers and 150 kids, I had to leave because I was so sick. So 2009 was spent with cancer, surgery and chemo. God is so good because he saved my life!!! Since then I substitute taught at two country schools nearby. I loved it. Then I spent 2015 teaching four year olds and 2016 with kindergarten At Churches In Town. (I've worked for Lutherans, Church of Christ and Methodist churches...and I am Baptist.!!!) I Was Excited To Get Back To Sub work...but I Messed Up My Leg Really Badly.so For Now I'm trying to get well. I guess you could say I've had many careers since I retired in 2000.

Posted - Oct 24 2017 : 08:05:22 AM Marilyn, I have taught all grade levels K - adult to students with learning disabilities, was a counselor and a principal. I'm currently finishing out my career at the elementary level teaching K-5 students in a pull-out program. I earned my Ph.D. during my teaching years and it would have been a drastic pay cut to go to the college level. I may do that after I retire....or just have fun and sew!
Glad to see the squares I sent are making it to all of you. I love the names of the streets as I addressed the envelopes. :)
