Two days ago, we had our first fall cool spell so I decided to make black bean/sweet potato chili and MaryJane's buttermilk biscuits from her new cookbook. Oh my, I have made buttermilk biscuits before, but they were never light, fluffy and delicious like these came out. MaryJane's recipe is basic, easy and bakes in your cast iron skillet.

If you do not have this new cookbook from MaryJane, I highly recommend getting one or asking for it for Christmas. There are so many recipes in there and I am having fun trying them out. Plus, the book is beautifully laid out and full of wonderful Farmgirl pictures you will enjoy. My next recipes to try are her sweet potato rolls and her Buttermilk- Biscuit Apple Pie which is also made in a large cast iron skillet.

Here is my version of the Giant Cinnamon Roll from page 48, but I used the topping recipe from the Pecan Crust Sweet Potato Pie on it and added some very finely ground pecans to the sugar/cinnamon filling.

This is Pecan Crust Sweet Patot Pie . . . pic taken at night in kitchen light, so it's a different "color". And I'm too lazy to do the fancy pinched edge crust. It was sure good . . served with ice cream!

Trying to decide what to try next from this great cook book!
Thanks Mary Jane!

Thanks for the reminder Winnie! I purchased and received the cast iron cookbook when it first came out but now the the weather is cooling off it is time to pull it out and start cooking!

Winnie, those recipes sound delicious. I really want to try them out and I think you have a great idea! I'm going to ask for this book for Christmas! I would love to hear how the apple pie turns out!
