I came across a recipe for preserving caper berries in salt and I want to try it. One of my favorite live plant sources is Mountain Valley Growers and they have caper bushes for $22. That's way more than I have ever paid for a plant.

Have any of you grown caper bush? If so I would like to hear all about it.

Besides price there is another drawback with growing it. Northeast Texas winters will be too cold so it would have to winter over inside and my bay tree has dips on south window. All other windows are patrolled by Annie so it would require a grow light.

Boo! I got an email from Amazon saying they issued me a refund because the plant was returned by the carrier in bad shape. And no more in stock. Maybe I will check out your source Sara.

March 1 - That explains why we are so much alike.

I'll deal with wintering it over when it gets here for now I will keep it on the deck where I can baby it. Come winter Annie may have to give up the other south window or at least learn to share.

I didn't think about looking on Amazon. Didn't know they sold live plants too.

Sara!!!
I got one too!! for MY March birthday!
I ordered off of Amazon, so we shall see. I love capers and they are so pricy. I have my south facing window, so I am hoping it will thrive. Such pretty flowers!
When is your Bday? Are you a crazy Pisces like me? I am on the 12th, so a true crazy fish.

Well, my fellow FarmGirl gardeners I couldn't justify getting the caper bush on my regular budget but I do gift myself a birthday present each year. I forgot about doing it the first of the month - my birthday is March 1 so I ordered it this morning - Happy Birthday to me.

My rules for self birthday gift - don't need it but want it and costs more than I usually spend.

Connie I like trying new things too. I found a source on-line for capers in salt for $10 with $10 S/H. At that price the bush would pay for itself but I still don't know about spending $20 on an unknown plant that may not like northeast Texas. I'm still thinking about it.

Nicole I will have to think long and hard before I spend that kind of money on a plant that may not do well here. If I do get it I will be posting all about it.

I have never heard of it before! I’d love to hear more if you do grow it this year, Sara.
