Raise your hand if you are a Gnomeaholic!!!

In Europe, Gnomes (Zwerges, as we call them in Germany)
are popular residents in home gardens,, and I have noticed an increasing popularity now here in the U.S.

My mother and I have been know to 'steal' gnomes out of each others gardens.... lol!

my largest one hangs from a tree, while the others are nesteled amongst plants and flower pots. I even have a small 4" one on the window ledge by my desk... and some itty bitty ones tucked in my Orchid plants.

luv this guy,,, and so do the birds...

(notice the dark stuff on his hand,, yep, bird phoo)

Sheila,, that explains your MJF name, VT Oma... I too was born in Germany, Stuttgart, and lived with my mom & grandparents aka Oma & Opa in Heilbronn... and yes Gnomes, or 'Zwergs' as we call them, are garden staples, as well as Gazing Balls.

This is so much fun to read, I was born in Germany, Bavaria, love those Gnomes and as a child I can remember seeing the Smurf's which is their American name they were in Germany way before they came to TV here, and I was so happy when I could watch them on TV in the US. I need to get another one mine did not make it thru Vermont's winter and it broke, I will have to make sure when I get the new one I bring it inside for the winter.

My husband is from Denmark and they remind us of Scandinavia. I have one gnome in my veggie garden. He is a resin statue, so tacky he’s adorable! He’s holding a shovel as if to garden, and has a red hat. I did not know his hat has a solar lightbulb in it that charges in sunny days. Imagine my surprise when the garden was glowing at night! I love my little gnome.

Cute post! Love all the gnomes.

Linda,
There are LOTS and LOTS of people in this area who use a wood pellet stove for heat in their homes. Very popular here!

I have several of these and I do love them but they do get tedious to paint and I am starting to hate them. Old age at 61 is setting in. Love yours and keep on painting!

Oh Grace my daughter loves gnomes. I just got her a new one to celebrate today, the first day of summer! I have my mom's dutch boy and girl that I need to paint and put back in the flower garden. They are closest things to gnomes I have.

I love gnomes! I have a tiny one in the pot with my rosemary which is getting pretty big. And I have a much larger one sitting by my pellet stove in the house . . .he sits there all the time. He even wore a Santa hat for Christmas!
I haven't gotten any larger ones for outside yet ... trying to decide if I want to subject them to our intense, high altitude sunlight.

Raising my hand!! Joyfully! Being in Germany over 3 years on lo y deepened my love for those wonderful gnomes! My mother grew up with a German background and my husbands family so gnomes are a norm here! I would go on as many volksmarches as I could JUST TO SEE the many yards filled with those personable characters! They make me smile too! Mine need a little color as well Grace!
