Lately I've had my bird feeders disassembled by what I guess is a raccoon during the night. One of the feeders is a plastic hopper type that he pulled the bottom off, and the other is a metal link hopper that he cleverly undid the lid and dumped all the sunflower seeds on the ground. I think I'll just spread the seeds on my concrete deck for a while and maybe he will move on.
If you've had rude raccoons, what did you do to discourage them?

My parents were dealing with a few of them last year. They really are pests and very mean. Be safe and good luck with getting rid of him.

Good thing he can't get into the compost!

I will try ammonia on a rag. The culprit just scampered down to the woods, leaving the feeder swinging.

I just saw the culprit scarper down into the woods. The feeder was still swinging!

We are whipped out with racoons and they keep us awake all night---have learned to get under our porch where we enclosed the bottom and get in the feed barrels. We trap them in catch and release traps and take and put them in woods owned by a state park. Either that or shoot them and we can't stand to kill them. Last year we caught about twenty. The are such pests---ruin our corn and dig up my outdoor plants. Cute yes---but they are such little pests.

We had a raccoon that decided to move under the deck of our old house. I soaked a rag in ammonia and used a broom to push it down under there. The smell was so awful that he packed up his bags and left! Good luck getting rid of yours.
