Farmgirls, our annual September Apple Festival month here at the MJF Chatroom begins September 1 which is just 16 days from now!! For the many newcomers and a general reminder to all, we have set aside each September as a festival month to share apple information, recipes, photos, and have fun! I will host a giveaway and an Apple Swap for anyone to participate in. Come September 1, look for postings to join in!!

There is also an Apple Badge this is easy and fun to do if you are interested in learning more about apples and adding to your badge accomplishments. Please check it out for a fun activity to work on.

The highlight of our month long celebration is our Farmgirl Apple Pie Sunday which is always the last Sunday in September. This year it is Sunday, September 30 so mark your calendars!! I hope you will join in that day and share your favorite apple pie recipe or favorite apple dish, if you are not a pie fan. We always love to see what other Farmgirls are enjoying!!

Apple goodness is arriving soon at MJF and I hope you will hop right in and share!!

I eat a lot more apples than bananas. We'll just have to make more things with apples in them. Dying to make an apple-sausage-potato dish. Anyone with a recipe to share?

I just heard on the morning TV weather segment that many in the Great Lakes area and further East will get some real fall weather this coming weekend!! The reporter even talked about Apple picking and apple festivals that will be happening up North!!

Farmgirls, if you are among the lucky areas that will have real apple picking weather this weekend, let us know if you venture out to an apple barn or farmer's market and find some of your favorite apples. And while you are out, blow some of that cooler air south for us. OK?!! We desperately need something to break the fever down here in Florida where it has been in the mid to upper 90s everyday for the past 7 days with no change in sight.!!

Sorry gals. I eat a banana almost everyday. Helps my leg cramps. But I did stop by our local orchard and picked up a huge bag, I'm thinking at least 15 lbs, of red delicious. They only had those and ginger gold so I got the reds for a change

I share my apples with my Dachshunds, I have 3. They love apples, I get a bite they get 1, I get a bite they get 2, I get a bite they get 3. You get the idea, my Dachshunds get more of the Apple than I do but they are so good for all of us.

Bananas?? I'd eat an apple every hour on the hour if it kept me from.bananas! I love apples and pineapple. Bananas hurt my belly. Interesting facts tho! Thanks for sharing Winnie! Happy for the apples! Go apples!

Farmgirls, I just Googled the question, What is America's favorite fruit, and here are the stats for 2017: Bananas-73% , and Apples-69%. Farmgirls....we are gaining on the Bananas!!!! LOL!! Let's give it the old Farmgirl push across all of our states and see if we can't get Apples to first place!! Sound like a goal for us? I'm in!! How about you?

I will report back next year at our MJF Apple Festival and see what the 2018 stats show. WE CAN DO IT!!

You cut your cinnamon rolls very thin and line the pie plate bottom and sides making sure you leave no gaps. Prebake the crust @375º for 15 minutes. Once cool, add pie filling, and top it with remaining cinnamon rolls. They fluff up some and you have a totally cinnamonly apple pie. Grandkids thinks I'm so cool for doing this. Actually I love a buttery cinnamon roll and apple pie. I have no other excuse.

I've had my apple garden flag out for a week at the frontporch steps and apple apron hanging on laundry room door. I'll wear it as I bake my no roll crust apple pie on Apple Pie Sunday. Yesterday I dried apples for the pie. I got two pkgs of apple slices in the produce marked down bin so I am set to go. If I make it to the package store in time I will soak the dried apples in apple brandy if not I will soak them in apple mint tea. One pie a year - how hard can it be.

I am almost finished freezing apple pie fillings. The Smokehouse apples make a very delicious pie. The combination of apple pie filling with a cinnamon roll crust is so evil and awesome, I'll be doing that for our Festival. How much more wicked can I get?
Though I am going to use some dried apples to make a Bara Brith sourdough bread. Just an experiment. Those of you who are baking out of MJ's Wild Bread book know which recipe I'm talking about. It's dried fruit seeped in tea before adding to a batter. I call it my breakfast bread. So lovely....
We are having cool days and some showers here in western WA. What a relief!

Wow, Sylvia, that recipe sounds awesome!!! How lucky you are to have Apples ready to pick right on your property!! I love a fresh picked apple from the tree. The store bought apples just pale in comparison in taste. Let us know what you end up making with your harvest. Of course , be sure to save some for our Farmgirl Apple Pie Sunday on September 30!!

I was excited to find a local grocery store this weekend that was carrying Ginger Gold apples. These are some of the first southern apples to ripen in August. They are a bit tart, like a Granny Smith, but juicy and delicious to eat or use in cooking. The ones in the store were quite green, so I have mine in a bowl on the table to ripen a bit more before I use them. This is a real treat for me because many of the apples sold in Florida come from New Zealand this time of year until we can get the US harvests of new crop apples in stock. But even then, they are not the same as getting apples that usually do not show up in stores because they are more local in nature. North Georgia always has Ginger golds this time of year and I am wondering if they got a load of them here for the weekend shoppers.

Farmgirls, I hope you are going to join us here and share your apple stories and recipes this month. Let's spread the word in our HenHouses, amongst Farmgirls, and friends everywhere that apples are finally here so that means real fall weather isn't too far off!!

Does anybody make cinnamon rolls often? I just saw a recipe using very thin cut cinnamon rolls as pie crust. You use the slices along the edge of a pie pan and across the bottom, leaving no gaps. Prebaked this in a 350º oven for 15 mins. Once cooled after 15 mins, put in your apple pie filling and sprinkle with some more cinnamon. Now use the remaining thin cinnamon roll slices to create the top crust, again, leaving no gaps. Now bake for 35 mins with a foil cover. Remove foil, bake another 10-15 mins to brown. I can only imagine how my grand boys will love this. You can of course use refrigerated rolls sliced, and canned pie filling---but why???????
My Smokehouse and Gala apples are ready to harvest, so off I go...
