Grace - you and I are like 2 peas in a pod on some things - I luv luv luv old patterns and Nancy Drew and chocolate and thrift stores and the list goes on. Isn't it fun to see all of the vintage stuff? I have two new-like-old patterns for suits from 1946 and 1948 and never made them. Like you and Barbara are saying - sizing is NOT what to used to be. Size 20 is the new size 10. LOL!

I have 2 of the Cake Doctor books - amazing what she can do with a cake mix.

Grace, Barbara has gifted the right person with this latest pattern!! What a cool piece of vintage for someone who loves to sew!

I learned to sew in 7th grade and kept working on my skills through my early 20s. When I look back at what I learned to do, I am amazed because now I can't seem to sew a straight line anymore!! LOL!! Sewing is like anything else, practice makes perfect and you have to do it all the time to keep up your "touch". At one time, I made all of my clothes and used to make special dressed for a friend's little girls. Then when I had my own girls....they were Tomboys and hated all those frills and bows!! LOL!!

Grace--I am so sorry about the fires in California and I have quit fussing about our rain--- as to be wet is so much better. God bless all and praying several times a day. Just wanted to say thanks again for the great grey scarf! I bought five new flannel shirts all with grey in them and your scarf is so great for me. Picture me stylin in my farmgirl outfits--- even if I am covered in mud', scraps of hay, and pieces of wood chips plus dog and cat hair. LOL! God bless you and your family Grace. You ae a special person for sure. I think I am just a weirdo---always walked a different path.

Yep, I learned to sew when I was in junior High School,, out of necessity... In High School, (we couldn't wear slacks until 1972,, and slacks,, NO Jeans.
Most of the clothes (dresses and Bell Bottom pants) in my closet, were made by me.
When I was married and raising our daughter,, I can honestly say a good 80% of mine and my daughter's clothes, I sewed. When my daughter was in 7th grade she asked me point blank, "mom, can I please have some store bought clothes?".. this was a shock,, but then I thought about it and said,, maybe it was time to not sew as much and do other things with my spare time...
Now I mostly sew craft items, quilts, aprons, trailer curtains, pillows etc., and an occasional top or silly flamingo/trailer outfit for me.
I hope one of my 2 (or both) grand girlies will show an interest in sewing.

I would wear a size twenty too. When I made these old dresses a bust 32 was slightly too big. I would make the patterns smaller and I never bought over a bust 34. Now I wish I had gotten the bigger ones. But I never dreamed I would spread out so much. Seems if you added one and a half inches to the seams it should fit. That would make six inches bigger I think. I used to be good at adjusting patterns---have gotten kinda lazy though. I remember when they changed the pattern sizes in the sixties because my sister sewed a lot. Almost all women knew how to sew back in the day. And a lot made their own clothes and their kids clothes. Now I know people that brag that they don't know how to sew on a button.

I luv the pattern,,, but what cracks me up is,, I wear a size 10 on average, sometimes a size 12... and with the older patterns I wear a size '20' and I am bulging at the seams..lol!
I was looking at the yardage required,, 5 yards on average.. but fabric was sold by 35", +/-
now fabric is sold by 44/45" widths.
Times sure have changed,

Grace---I was pretty sure you would like this pattern. I always wanted to make it and I never did. I wish you could have helped me to pack the 800 others and I would have given you any that you wanted. It was hard to let go of them, but they are on their way to where they can be sold and used. I sure had fun collecting them over the years. In my twenties I really did sew and use some of them. But who can make 800 outfits? LOL.

Grace---thank you for the beautiful scarf you sent me. You make the most interesting things and are very talented. How did you think of putting cashmere sweater squares together like that? Grey is one of my favorite winter colors. Your wonderful sewing skills may be inspiring me to sew again---I was really good at it but so rusty on it now---haven't sewed in twenty years, I will let you be my sewing inspiration. Sara has inspired me to actually enjoy canning. Nice to meet people that like to do the things I like to do.

How cool, Gracie! Nancy Drew was one of my favorites and, in the past few years, have collected a few of the books.

Hi Grace---been staying at the cabin shack and roughing it---haven't been on the computer. Glad you like these books...I had to look up what RAOK meant---LOL. I told our thrift shop lady to look for cheap Nancy Drews. She is at sales and thrift stores a lot. I may find some more. I love books and can never leave them alone. I hope to get to the library book sale this fall.
