Posted - Oct 20 2018 : 2:58:39 PM Winnie... I do know that many Germans know about our Thanksgiving fest, (and about Halloween) but I do not recall of any such celebratiion in Germany. They do however celebrate a lot more then we do, especially the small rural communities... there is always some fest going on... be it 'fish fest ' or a 'asperagus fest'... etc. They do celebrate the seasons thou. As for "Fasching"... it has to do with Lent (Pre Easter)... but it is much like Madis Gras, but is really more for the adults... for the children they celebrate by walking through the town in robes carrying paper lanterns and singing folk songs. Called Lateren. I am not sure about the Northern regions... I know they don't celebrate October fest like the Southern region does. My favorite (done by both South & North)... is the "Angelica fest".(Christkindlmarkt) ..fest of the Angles, which is done throught out Dec. music, parades, Gluhwein, lebkuchen and merriment.

Posted - Oct 20 2018 : 05:43:26 AM Grace, I love your pretty autumn gatherings for decorations! With all of the moving and reconfiguring of where to place your crafts and seasonal favorites, it takes awhile before you want to dig around again and pull stuff out. Do the Germans do any fall decorating? I am thinking they don't since most probably don't do Halloween and then they don't have our Thanksgiving holiday. Or am I wrong? I do know that children celebrate Martinams on November 11 and in Cologne, they begin the festivities that lead up to Madrid Gras early. The celebrations include people dressing up, parades and of course lots of beer drinking.
