Girls---I know a woman who is really having to live in a camper this winter. She is using a kerosene heater for warmth. She is a mean person and her family won't help her any longer. But still I think of her and know how hard it must be. A lot of people have such a hard time. I am so thankful how blessed I am this Christmas---just to be safe and warm is great. Let's all think of our blessings on this HOLY NIGHT.

Sorry ladies that the link isn't working...that is so odd! (And a little scary...the pros and cons of the internet) Thanks Grace for the wiring advice...so smart on your part. I think I'll just add lots of blankets if it's chilly...I feel okay with the lights and maybe a radio, but there's just something about running a heater that worries me! She's all snug for winter...but it was 50 today...oh, how I was tempted!

Love the picture Grace. Do you have a link to the site you got it from?

Mary, re-wiring my old Serro Scotty was one of the 1st things I had done. I do use a lil programmable space heater in my trailer when I camp in colder seasons.
I had a 1959 Aljo, scared the pahtooties out of us when we discovered burned wiring behind the paneling...

Okay, so I'm still learning about these adorable campers! I would LOVE this snow scene...

With wiring that's 55 years old, is it safe to have a little heater in most campers? I'm reading that some of you do that...just wondering if the old wiring is okay with the new-fangled heaters!

The picture is beautiful. I'm not sure about staying in a camper through the cold, cold, winter. BRRRRRRRRR! I like to be cozy and warm.

I have even camped in a tent at 20 below zero.

1) it's all in how you prepare and plan for camping in winter-must have proper clothing, and sleeping bags. (IE I would get at least 40 below zero sleeping bags for 20 below, or use 20 below zero bags, with a bivvy added. etc.

2) A camper will be different because it has things that could break in severe cold, so you would want to probably get extra insulation and do what they call winterizing it. If you are staying in place for a while, you can also buy stuff to put around the bottom to keep it a bit warmer underneath and add heat tape to pipes and such as that. I would keep faucets dripping (just a drip drop every few seconds, not a steady stream) to keep lines from freezing still if it is severe cold. And such as that.

My little "Reiver's Rest" is a 1971 Sprite and it's cold in there. I do have a nifty little heater that works, but since the trailer is so small I don't spend much winter time in her!

This is a iced cookie trailer,, cute as all get out!

Winnie, I can tell you, both my Scotty and Aristocrat trailers have minimal 50+/- year old insulation...in other words,, COLD! you would have to run a little room heater all day/nite long
I have camped in my trailers during cold weather, but thank goodness for those little room heaters...

I actually have a small heater that has a thermostat on it so I can program it to turn on when the inside temp drops...

Grace~ Would it really be possible to actually live in a camper like this in a heavy Winter? I have never owned a camper so I was wondering how much insulation is in them? This little camper looks so cute all decked out for the holidays! For sure , if you really wanted a camper Christmas, we are the state to visit!! LOL!! No snowdrifts, but palm trees and gorgeous skies are plentitful!!
