Looking at these books this morning. I think I have read them all twice. They have a very calming way about them. If you haven't read "ESPECIALLY FATHER".see if you can find it, very funny, what a crazy early life she had.

Barbara I got your book yesterday! Thank you I can't wait to get started. Going to make myself a cuppa tea on this cold day and relax and read.

Awesome Barbara! This week we are moving the rest of our stuff from Fort Worth to our home in East Texas. The books will help pass time for me anyway while driving back and forth. Hopefully two trips will do it.

Nancy---no need to read in order---she just mostly talks about her life in the country and about the simple things in life.

Question?

Does it matter what order her books are read. I bought two from a second hand online book store. One was published in 1959 and the other in 1976.

Thanks Barbara. I'll be looking for it. Snow in the holler must be beautiful even if it does make it hard to get out and about.

Yes Denise---I do have it still---it is old but not in bad shape. Both my copies are old and found years ago. I would love to send it to you. Email me your address. It makes me happy that you want it and I think you will love it. Winnie I got your book today and I absolutely love it. Plan to start it this week---so many sayings that I grew up hearing and that I still say. A wonderful book. I was at the PO and knew I had a package since Saturday, but I could not get it because the window was closed---no packages after 12:00. Anyway, I got your and Sara's Books in the mail today. Got snow and was stuck in the holler on Tuesday. Again---thanks so much Winnie. And I also noticed the author signed it.

Barbara, I am sorry you have been sick! No worries about the delay in the book mailing. I hope you enjoy reading what I sent as I found it a great and fun discussion about the history of the Appalachian mountain culture.

Winnie---I did not get your book out as I promised. I got sick and did not feel like doing anything extra. Had to lay down a lot each day. But your book will go out tomorrow. I always try to do what I say I will. but sometimes we can't. Sara---I will mail yours tomorrow too. Sorry I am late. Sara---yes that is a hoot to have to be told to use clean hands. Maybe she knew a lot of dirty people that cooked---LOL.

Peggy I received my cookbook several days ago and have been looking through it. At the beginning of each chapter she writes a page or two. After some recipes she adds a personal note. Got a kick out of when in one recipe it states you can use your clean hands to mix. Never that I can think of have I read a recipe cautioning the reader to use clean hands - that's a hoot.

Nancy Jo---I want to thank-you for opening this conversation and making me remember how much I love Gladys Taber. I had barely thought of her books during my twenty years in this holler and I had them all in different book shelves and I didn't even know where to find them. I dug them all out---I have ten--- and I will group them together and know what shelf they are on. Most of mine have the date and where I found them---mostly early 80,s and from the flea market---one says from a bookshop in South Carolina---I used to visit my sister there. Brings back so many memories. I plan to read them again as after thirty years I have forgotten much of it. My younger self liked to think of myself as a hillbilly Gladys Taber---I lived in an old hundred year old farmhouse at the time. Now I just see myself as an old holler farm woman that loves nature and dogs. I always buy Gladys Taber books at book sales because I feel sorry for them---I am usually at the sales after they have been on for a few days and there they sit---begging for me to buy them and love them and take them home---LOL. Then if I meet a Gladys fan I can give her some books if she needs them. So thanks Nancy Jo---you awoke old memories and gave me my Friend Gladys back.

I think I have a copy of every book Gladys Taber wrote, mostly found searching in antique stores. I love her books and have read them all two or three times.

I just love Gladys Taber's books. I have a collection of them and I would have to agree they are very pleasant to spend time reading.
