I want to make myself a granny square poncho like we all worn in the ‘60s.
They are coming back in style (not sure they ever went out of style), when I was in the big city last week everyone was wearing one. Even when we went to the PX on the military base.
So, now I want to make myself one. Does anyone have a simple pattern they would like to share with?
Thank you.

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Not many! LoL! Those were the days when I could eat anything and still be thin, like Twiggy! Look at all the old 60/70s pictures, everyone was Twiggy! Then someone must have put something in our food!!!

These are 'sew' sweet,, but keep in mind,, as they get longer the weight will pull on the upper part.

Back when I was in High School and the size of 'Twiggy'... my mom's friend, an elderly lady, crocheted for me a summer tank style dress,, it was so cute but the weight pulled on the upper part of the dress,, thank goodness she lined the dress with a thin layer of satin-taffeta type fabric.. oh how I wish I still had that dress...

Judith, Granny Squares are so easy. If I can or could make them ...I feel sure someone as talented as you can do them too!
When we married some 57+ years ago...My husband's grandmother had an Afghan made of Granny Squares set in black ... Or that was what it looked like to me. Before my son left home she made me two from acrylic yarn. Her's was wool. Why did she make two??? Perhaps she knew that one day I would have two grand daughters.

My vote is to look at Pinterest. I agree with Nicole on Ravelry. I have found many patterns there. Both places would be a good start in finding the direction you want to go.

There are so many great patterns for just that for free on Ravelry. I would check there before Pinterest.

Hi Debbie, You are so right. I've seen people wearing them also in New York. It brings back memories and I love it.

Put your hair up in a bun, drink some coffee and handle it.

Debbie - I'm afraid the 60's are a bit before my time so I'm not sure exactly what your poncho looks like but I did find this in my saved patterns.

I love granny squares -- I lusted over the afghan on the couch in the tv show Roseanne. I just haven't figured out how to make them yet. I did buy a granny square pattern book some years ago so maybe I should find it and give it another try. So far the only things I have been able to crochet are warm hats, baby blankets, and washable Swiffers.

I remember those!! Cool, nice to hear they are coming back in style! I haven't crocheted in years Debbie but I think I still remember how! Maybe one day next fall I'll give it a go. Right now all I can think about is planning and planting my garden!! Can't wait to see yours if you make one!
