I purchased a box full of 'Stuff'..
But the main reason I bought the box was for these...

2 pre-packaged apron kits... .29cents when they were new...
there was a 3rd one, but not packaged..
all you had to do was sew it together, the burgundy object is the flat fabric to make your own bias tape.

There is a stack of pre-printed fabric to stitch.. some are 100% linen for table scarves and some are 100% cotton for the percolator cover and mixer cover..
Lots of knitting needles and a cigar box full of embroidery floss.. not to mention a bag full of Hoops...
As for the orange tropical fabric which is only 36" wide,, there is 4 yards of it.. now to think what to make with it.

Gotta luv a fabulous $7.00 score!

OK< I finished up the pink apron that was not in a package..
I had to make a few changes,, the burgundy ribbon for 'bias' was shredding and not stable,, I even tried using spray starch.. but there was not enough useable ribbon, so I omitted the ribbon that joined the 2 sides,,, and instead did a wee fancy stitch down the seams.
I did have barely enough of the ribbon to sew between the apron and waist band..
any way,, here is what it looks like..

nothing fancy, just a utilitarian apron.. oh and as always,, a YOYO...

The fabric felt and sewed like cotton percale,, like a bed sheet.. so it should last me a long time!!!

Well Kat I have to say, the sewing machine and the box full of goodies makes for a very good day. I like that the sewing machine makes a really cute little desk. And a box of you never know what is always fun.

Growing up on Military bases in the mid '50's through the late 60's.. we 'traveled light'..
On Base they always had a Consignment Shop,, you had an account, dropped off items you no longer needed, out grew or couldn't take when getting transferred.. (like ski and sport gear, small furniture, electronics, clothes etc..)
You put down a price,, and when the item sold you got a percentage and the shop got a percentage...
I loved going with my mom to the Shop... I was an avid 'Barbie' collector,, I had all 3, Barbie, Midge & Skipper- mom wouldn't let me have a Ken doll.. lol!
Anyway,, my love of thrifting began way back then..

Grace---this was a great box of "junk". I never see stuff like that anymore. Those prices are so cheap and funny to us these days---but I remember what my grandfather said to a man talking about how much a nickel bought during the depression---he said---"Trouble was getting the nickel." And still true for me as a child in the sixties. I remember a family so poor they couldn't afford a deck of OLD Maid cards. So we tried to make a home made deck---it was great fun. My mom couldn't afford cloth for my sister to make an apron in seventh grade home ec, so she sent an old dress bottom---large and full---and my sister about died of shame. It made a real pretty apron though and that is how I learned to reuse and invent uses for things. Great fun. My husband hates thrifting---although he will find me something now and then that I truly love. Glad you and he have such fun---but Grace---how in the world are you going to go on a road trip in 2012??? If you find out how---let me know because I'd sure like to back up a few years. LOL

I drag DH with me to town,, and now he has caught the junktiquing bug!
Half the time he spots stuff for me!! He truly is my partner in junktiquing crime! lol!

I luv when I find vtg goodies with their old original price tags still attached..
The aprons are in their little plastic bag.. but the plastic is real brittle.. so I encased them in zip=loc bags to keep the bag from crumbling away...
