You Maybe Getting Bored if...

My sister Betty and I have been doing our own version of taste testing on Spam and other pork luncheon meats. We grew up eating Spam and still do but it has been hard to find since the virus.

She tested Treat and found it was too salty for her liking. It had less fat because chicken was added which was a plus. She won't buy it again because of the salt and will continue to buy Spam.

I tested Brookdale brand from Aldi - a product of Denmark. Good flavor but way too salty. I sliced it - flash froze it for later. Maybe cooking will help with the salt. Bottom line: I'll stick with Spam in my pantry.

How bored are you?

We went up to our trailer in the hills yesterday and had Spam for breakfast this morning.
Rationing in England lasted long after WWII was over. My parents had friends in England and I recall them sending them sugar even in 1950.

This is funny because I was re-watching 1940s House on YouTube and one of the foods that America sent to Britain during the war to help with rationing was SPAM. Stands for "Specially Processed American Meat"
Yum!

I have never actually eaten Spam. Am I missing something?

Here is how bored we are - today Audrey and I stalked a squirrel at the bird feeder with binoculars. In our defense, it was a fluffy little squirrel, lol.

We used to have Spam at lunch sometimes in the Summer. We had a big family so Mom, on a baking sheet, would take a slice of toasted bread, add a thin slice of Spam, a nice spoonful of baked beans on top, and a slice of American cheese on top of the beans. Then she would put the baking sheet in the over to warm it through and melt the cheese. We all loved this rare treat!!

I grew up with Spam too. It has too much fat and salt but we like it anyway, not as a regular thing but as a special sometimes thing. I like the turkey one and DH prefers the hot and spicy. I made a Spam and pineapple dish for a Monty Python party once that was a big hit.

Grace I will have to try your soup with the real thing Spam.

Nine years ago when I moved to Paris I packed a cooler for my first night because I didn't want to cook & clean up. Can of Spam, loaf of bread, jar of mustard, and a bottle of wine. Ate the sandwich cold and it was so good. For several years afterwards on the anniversary of my move I had Spam sandwich and wine for supper. Somewhere along the way I stopped doing it. I might revive it this Nov 13.

Sara,, I also grew up on SPAM,, (my dad was born in Mississippi)...
I agree, the Treat brand is salty,, and I tried a Walmart version and it was mushy...
No Alidi's around here (big time Bummer)..
I make SPAM soup, using chicken or veggie broth, diced up taters, can or frozen corn and green beans... a few minutes before serving I add a TBLSP of ACV..
