Darlene, thank you for sharing! This is all so interesting to me! I probably would have been terrified of him, but I’m glad everyone had a laugh and enjoyed themselves.

LoL! Belsnickle was a hoot! Not for you, though! LoL! Belsnickle should go out all year! Maybe he should visit some parents! I can't imagine me or my kids acting the way I have seen some kids act! All I had to do was give a look! LoL! I guess I was Belsnickle!
One time my uncle was going to pick my cousin and I up at an event at our firehouse. We got scared and started to walk home. He was late! He picked us up along the way. We got home and he had us get a switch and we got a crack. My parents didn't throw a fit. Next time you will listen is what was said! We did! We didn't die from a crack and we learned who was in charge. It wasn't us! LoL!

Joan, I just saw your sweet comments. Thank you! Love to you!

My Uncle Paul was in the Santa Suit. His pillow slipped and my mom wrote on the back of the picture that the adults were laughing so hard when that happened because my uncle was so thin. Yep...I was about 6 or 7.

I found some of the pictures of what Darlene called Belsnickle, who visited us when I was a youngster. Good times...LOL!
I'm the little girl on the couch, watching my cousin bending down to pick something up. My older cousin was having great fun watching his brother saying prayers at Santa's command

I received the package from Beth yesterday! Love the dish cloth, ornament and especially the Christmas memory of when each person in the family received a quilt...and the extra special quilt saved for her. Thank you! I know she won't see this post but I will send an email to her.

I swapped with Jana, but never heard from her either. So yesterday I tried again. And she responded. She has been so busy. I felt bad because she has so little down time. I put her on my prayer list. I guess that sometimes we just forget that we are important to others, and they care about us. I will try to remember to say Hi even if I can not converse.

This is so crazy!! Darlene I would love to see pictures! Growing up for me, Santa was always nice and sweet. So a couple years back when the movie Krumpus came out I refused to watch it. It's hard for me to imagine a Santa that is mean and scary. It's crazy how different cultures celebrate the same holiday.

Darlene, I never heard of the name, but your description of Belsnickle surely sounds like the one from my mother's grandparents. And yes, the Santa dressed in red from my childhood also would come into the house with a stick. He would pound the stick on the floor and make the kids get on their knees and say prayers. A far cry from jolly old Saint Nick! I know I have some pictures. I'll find a couple and post them. You really cannot make this stuff up!

Belsnickle is the scarey, bad Santa that dresses in black and visits the kiddos. He has his little twitches that he likes to snap at their legs. Charming, right? LoL!
He never came to our house or to my kids when they were little. No wonder some kids would scream when they sat on Santa's lap! They probably saw Belsnickle the night before! LoL! Glad my German family didn't bring him around! However, one Halloween my cousin and I went to a party at the firehouse. My uncle told us he'd pick us up and when he didn't show up we started walking home. He picked us up near home and made us pick our own tree branch, twitch, and we both got a twitching for not listening! Come to think of it, He must have been Belsnickle! LoL!

I haven't heard of Belsnickle and his twitches. My mom said that when her grandparents were in Bavaria, they had two Santa Clauses. One dressed in black and was really mean and scary. He would generally terrorize the kids...even putting chains around the parents and taking them away due to the kids being naughty during the year....Then the Santa dressed in red would come in...bringing the parents back and passing out the presents. In my childhood, there was only the Santa dressed in red. He would start out mean and scary...and yes, even putting chains on parents, but then would go out and come back in with the presents. My children only heard the stories...that tradition did not pass on to them. Germans are certainly of tough stock!
