I have decided to host a swap for a sun bonnet or sun hat. You will have 1 partner each, and you will each make one sun hat or sun bonnet for your partner. I will take signups until July 15 and mailout date will be by July 31.

When partners are announced, you will contact your partner to exchange addresses. When you sign up to swap, please specify if you like or dislike a sun hat that has the flap that goes down your neck; I know there are some who do not like this. There are lots of free patterns on Pinterest and the Internet for different styles of hats - both sewn with fabric and crocheted. Here are just a few links:

Sewn:
https://zunessewingtherapy.com/sun-hat-with-free-sewing-pattern/
https://www.scatteredthoughtsofacraftymom.com/little-house-on-the-prairie-costume-bonnet-tutorial/2/
NOTE: This pattern says it is for an 8-11 year old girl. I just made this sun bonnet and added just a little to the length of the bonnet part (pattern says 9.25" and I made it 10.5") and used her way to measure for the size of the brim and the rest of the hat. It fits fine this way.
http://hunterweststaketrek.blogspot.com/2012/03/design-your-own-pioneer-duds.html (includes links to patterns for bonnet, skirt, and apron, if you are interested. LOL!)

Crocheted:
https://lovestitches.blogspot.com/2011/11/pattern-crochet-hat-for-my-mom.html
http://fabartdiy.org/crochet-summer-bazaar-sun-hat-crochet-free-patterns/

Link to Pinterest page of hats/sunbonnets:
https://www.pinterest.com/vickiemlutz/hats-and-bonnets/?utm_campaign=rdboards&e_t=08ab966aa40a460eae8298f7ea4ffc19&utm_source=31&utm_medium=2004&utm_content=812055445249867422&utm_term=4

I am also asking everyone not to include any tucks or extras; the only exception is if you want to include a favorite summertime recipe. This way the sun hat may fit into a padded envelope and be easier and less expensive to mail than a small box.

Postage rates are higher, and keep going up. People are staying home and not able to go to the post office as often; and some people are out of work and the more money we can save, the better.

I did a sun bonnet swap several years ago and still have the hat I received. In the heat we have been having in Texas, it has come in very handy. They do keep you cooler, too.

I hope many of you will join in.

Partners:
Linda (quiltee)and Grace (Katmom)
Marilyn (TexasGran) and Judith (StitchinWitch)
Rebecca (BeckyT) and Hannah (GinnyBelle)
Please email your partner for her address. I can't wait to see all the pretty sun hats! Thank you all for joining.

Grace, I've had very good experiences with on line fabric stores. Probably ten years ago I ordered fleece with basketballs all over it. I wanted to make blankies, pillows and a bag for each of my girls. Knowing how sticky fleece can be and how sleepy, tired kids just grab and go to get off the bus and into the family vehicle...i lined the bags with an acetate fabric.

Jordan fabrics has their shop in Grants Pass, OR... they are on my radar the next time (after COVID-19) we head back down to visit family.
They have wonderful tutorials and great fabrics.. I get their emails all the time.. Luv the fabrics.
There is a fabulous quilt shop in Spokane Valley, a gal could spend hours and her life savings in there.

Grace, since I am in the 10" square swap I have ordered from MSQ several times this year.
I've enjoyed several tutorials also.
I like to watch the Jordan fabrics tutorials too! I ordered a couple of florals from them too. They are in Oregon.
Do you have some subgestions???

Hey Linda,, Camano Island is on the west side of the state, about 5hr drive.... One of these days I will get back over there to Seattle and then I can pop over to Camano Island.... but for now, I'll stick with the quilt shops over here.... or visit the on-line shops... or dig through my stash of fabric,,, and save my money till the pandemic is behind us and then I can go Ape-Snot-Crazy shopping!! lolol!

Linda when my sister built her new house, she bought all new stuff from Rooms to Go.
My only complaint was with her sofa. As long as one person sat on each end you
Were fine bit when a third person sat in the middle...oh my. What a wreck. Both the ends felt like they were folding...up so everyone was all bunched together. It was so uncomfortable.

Customer Service isn't what it used to be - at all! We ordered a bedroom suite in May. Today was the FIFTH delivery of the dresser, and it still is not acceptable. It took 3 deliveries to get the media (men's dresser) chest. I will never get anything from Rooms to go again. And they may get this set back if they will give me a complete refund; I had one manager said they don't do that, and another told me she could give me a complete refund. This is ridiculous. First they said they would give us a store credit. We bought the most expensive bedroom set they have, it is made in Viet Nam, so why would we want to buy another cheaper set???

This has been very frustrating.

Thank you Marilyn -- My sunbonnet arrived today! Very pretty. I had a pattern for a slat bonnet but never made it; now I don't have to. I'll post a picture soon.

The package I've been waiting for since June 14th finally arrived mysteriously two days after I sent a steaming email stating what I thought of them and demanding my money back. I didn't get anywhere with 5 polite emails and two phone calls. Unfortunately, sometimes it pays to be [bleep]y.

Marilyn... so frustrating...
You would think in light of what is going on and negative comments about sustaining the USPO... that they would try a little harder...

So frustrating....
Even with a tracking # ... I find I have to message people to make sure they actually got their package....because I have had to many negative experiences with the P.O. and lost packages, miss-directed and re-directed packages... etc.
and quit honestly.. FEDEX is starting to get me frustrated as well!

Judith I had a similar incident happen to me. I finally went to the post office one more time and asked if I could go back to help find my missing package. They got busy and within five minutes I had my package. No explanation...just a package.

I hope so but I've had post office problems lately (along with a lot of other people). I'm waiting on one package that according to the tracking number has been at the local post office for over two weeks with the notation "awaiting delivery". I called the postmaster who checked and said it isn't there. I think the more we pay the worse the service gets.

I just checked and JoAnn.com has 4 shades of seersucker for 5.99 a yard - red, blue, green, and black. Hmmm! A cotton shift dress would be comfy out of seersucker. I may have to order some or see about picking some up at a nearby JoAnn store. They do the drive-up/pick-up there so you don't have to go in. That might be safer than me going in and finding things I really don't need. LOL!

I haven't heard but it wouldn't surprise me. We went to Walmart last week but it was a quick in-and-out with list in hand and I didn't go near the fabrics. I didn't want to be in there long as there were people without masks and it was busy. I still have a lot of fabric to use up before I buy more. My quilt shop is open now with reduced hours so I can go there if I positively need something but it is 25 miles away. My pieces of fabric keep getting smaller and smaller so people may be getting patchwork items before long :-)

Kat -

I have gotten several pieces from up your way in Washington. It is called Over the Rainbow fabrics at 740 Michael Way, Camano Island, WA 98282 ph: 360-387-2366 https://overrainbow.com The owner is very helpful, and has worked with me to pre-order something I needed (that I got and haven't used yet - LOL!). Is she anywhere near you? She has a very good website and mail order business, as well as walk-in.

Another mail order for me is Fabric.com. It is a great site for fabric and they have good sales.

You are a hoot!
I'm planning to see if I can get into our WalMart store, and look around and shop a bit.
I watched a video today. Then I ran it over with no sound while I read the comments. Some one commented that we could see shortages again in Sept. Seems like they said it would be due to supply lines from China being cut. So walmart may have a lot of empty spaces, if that is true!???.
