We've been in our home almost a year now. We had the house inspected prior to purchasing and it was found that the dryer was vented into the crawl space improperly. We asked for it to be fixed and upon our final inspection the inspector told us it was vented properly. We had assumed they used new flex.

Fast forward to 2 days ago. Our dryer died so we had to purchase a new one (it was way too old to repair.) Hubby removes the vent and sees all kinds of lint in the flex going into the crawl space. When we went into the crawl space to connect the new flex = I was shocked at the flex we were connecting to. (I will upload a picture shortly)

We should have checked the flex when we moved in. This is such a fire hazard. Please check and/or clean out your dryer vents/flex tubes or whatever their called at least yearly! Learn from us.

Maybe they thought all that lint would act like insulation.

Our vent goes just to the outside the wall. We have a different kind of vent that let's the dryer be very close to the wall. The vent is only the thickness of the wall. I keep the lint trap cleaned after every use.

Oh Yikes!
UUGH! that could have been a very bad situation...
The house we bought 2 1/2 years ago,, had a similar issue,, the dryer vent was run up into the attic rafters,, with no outlet..!!! Thank goodness our Home Inspector caught it.. My hubby re-vented it out of the attic and into the garage and to an exterior wall so the vent now blows out to the outside of the house like it is suppose to..,, and I can reach the little vent/basket so I can remove any lint that builds up.. I do this regular on a monthly basis.. Who knows why the previous owner did what he did..

Boy, looking at that photo,, scary!
