I am ISO = In Search Of an vtg. 1969 pattern... #8551

I bought this pattern over at 'JJ.Newberry & CO." discount store back when I was a young teen.. I made 2 of the long robes... one for me and one for my mother...
As you can see, it is a size small 8-10... well I no longer wear a small nor a medium... I need the Large, 16-18 size.. btw: that equals to a 38 bust & 29 waist....

Sooo,,, does anyone, by chance have this pattern in the large size stashed away... and would not mind parting with it,, I would like to buy it.. I have the perfect fabric to make the long robe and would love to make one...

If I can't find one I think I might contact Simplicity Pattern company to see if they have a 'retro' version of that pattern... or a current version..
I could use my sewing math skills and re-size it,, but that is more work then I care to do. If it were just one size to be enlarged,, I wouldn't mind,, but to go from a 32" bust to a 38".. that's a lot.

Just thought I would ask..

oh and btw,,, Simplicity has used this number, 8851, three times since the late 1960's.. and ironically, I have another pattern, with this same number for a simple sheath dress.. Now that is too funny! I should use those numbers and go buy a lottery ticket! lol!

Thanx sisters for checking..

I do not want to go into town, stand in line out in the sun, for my turn to go into Joanns Fabric store,, and then sit for an hour or longer browsing through the pattern books.. because I know me and my lack of restraint to not buy other patterns for projects that will most likely become a UFO! lolol!

I remember that style back in the day!! Like you, in 1969, my body measurements sure were different from today!! LOL!! Those big bell sleeves were so popular but they always drug through food stuff if you weren't careful.

I just went through my box of patterns and don't have that one. I wouldn't have had that size back then either; I've also grown with age. If you can't find one in the proper size it looks like it wouldn't be too difficult to enlarge since it is a loose style and not fitted.

Hi, Grace, I'll keep my eye out for it. Just went through a box of patterns yesterday at an antique store. It doesn't look like that fussy of a pattern so I bet you could enlarge it with good results. Another idea would be to look at dresses and robes in the pattern books at the fabric store and see if there's a current similar pattern. Buy that in your size and build the 8551 to match neck, armholes, etc. I use paper grocery sacks to make patterns and tape them together. Muslin is also good. I know you said you didn't want to do that but I really think you could have success. : )

Just finished perusing through ebay... going over to etsy next...

I found four of them, 3 are size small and 1 is a size med... but no large.

But,, I also found that there was a child's version, #8570...
so they are out there,, I will just have to diligently search...

Sorry - I know I don't have that pattern. Hope you can find it. Check on eBay.
