It has been expecially hot and humid. I have been hanging laundry out on the line and thinking it is one of those things that is so simple, but makes life slow down (in a good way) for a moment. Similar to washing dishes by hand (I wash alot of my vintage, all of my knives, and some of my glasses by hand), it seems to me to be a peaceful chore. I love the fresh smell of the clean laundry after it has been on the line! I have beautiful clothes pin bag made for me by my friend Julie, and I love using the wooden clothes pins. It is amazing how much cooler it keeps the house without the dryer running on a hot day. I
What is a chore that you find to be “peaceful”?

I LOVE hanging out laundry. That's the only way I dry my clothes. Living in the sunny state of Queensland, Australia, there really is no need for a clothes dryer (and it saves on electricity). We have an old-fashioned Hills Hoist clothesline in the back yard. I have wooden pegs and my friend gave me some metal pegs (featured in my General Chatroom post - Cleaning Up - Activated Eco).
I also love making the bed in the morning. For some reason, once you make the bed, the whole house feels clean and organised.

Just my luck, it seems, this summer. RIght after posting this, the following weekend I hung more laundry on my line. I love the sheets how they smell after, and how white the whites get! Anyway, the next day, right where I had been standing, a tree fell after a bad storm. Took out my laundry line! Fortunately, it was made so that if something caught on it, it would give way. It is fixed, but I was too freaked out for awhile to go back out to hang laundry out there! I think my guardian angel was looking out for me.
Very interesting about the clothes pins. I did not know that fact, either! Mine are not THAT old, either, as I do not have any like that. Learned something new!

I'd love a clothes line. I just throw clothes over outdoor furniture. I find washing dishes relaxing. I can look out the window and watch life going by.

Well ain't that interesting about the clothes pins. I don't have any that old I guess. My aunt would always wipe down her clothes line with a rag before hanging out her clothes. I don't, but probably would be a good idea. We live on a gravel road..... no dust there right??!!!

Yes, and I did some research and found that there should be a metal clip attached at the notch. Also an article that explains this clip was to hang over the clothesline so that the spring clip could then grasp the clothing without making contact with the line, which is often dirty. How about that? We learned something new today! 
A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Way to go Wanda!! that is the pattern my mom makes for clothes pin bags. She just made me a new one last year for my birthday. I don't know what the notch is for though. Interesting!!!

About laundry, I had asked for a pattern for a clothes pin bag, and then look what I found in an antique store this week!!
This very cute clothes pin bag full of several types of clothes pins. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the notch
is for on the ones at the bottom of the pic? I have never seen this type before. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I love this... baking bread is a special one, for me, too, Sherone. I don’t think it is “just a loaf of bread” when you make it yourself.
I agree. Washing dishes, as well as being in the. Garden are also peaceful chores.
It looks promising today, so I am hoping to hang my sheets on the line. May bake a loaf of bread myaself today or may wait until tomorrow..

Oooh.. How I love hanging laundry, too! Isn't it true that everything just seems so much calmer when our laundry is flowing in the breeze rather than the dryer running inside? I think the birds even like it! I just bought a replacement line and new clothespins a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had time to switch it out with the old, but will definitely try this weekend! I would like to buy a line crank from Lehman's too, just to help keep things tight and tidy! Thanks for the reminder, Nicole!

I too hand wash my dishes. To quote a woman who grew up during the great depression "I like to wash dishes because it means I had something to eat".

I used to love hanging out laundry, until the dermatologist said it was not good for my allergies. I do enjoy baking bread and watering the garden and I'm going to start sending Audra Rose all my ironing.

I too hand wash dishes,, and hang laundry..
My clothes line stays up all summer,,,, infact I had washed my lace curtains yesterday and had them out hanging to dry.
Some things I toss in the dryer for about 10-15min to get rid of the wrinkles then hand out to finish drying.

I think my most peaceful chore is watering the garden. I get to walk around and check on all my plants, see what I can bring in for the day, and listen to all the animals outside. My least favorite chore is hand washing dishes. When water rolls along my arm from my wrist up it sends me into orbit. I had that sensation so bad. Maybe if I invested in some dish washing gloves I might be ok lol!

My days of hanging laundry out on a line are over and I can truthfully say I don't miss it. I grew up first with a wash pot in the back yard with a rub board and then by the time I was a teenager we had a wringer washer. I now have a rub board hanging on my laundry room wall and a wringer on a table to remind me of how easy I have it now. I put my laundry in the dryer and let it do it's thing while I do something else - like work on wool applique project or just piddle.

I love hanging the sheets and towels on the clothesline. It does help me slow down and not be in such
a rush, and anytime spent outside does my soul good.
It makes the towels extra thirsty when you use them and at bedtime you can just smell the sunshine
in the sheets! Such a peaceful nights sleep on clean crisp sheets. I need a new
clothespin bag though if anyone has a pattern to share. I saw one once made out of a pair of jeans
that was very cute.

I love making bread. I feel intentional, like I have a great purpose to fulfill. I know, it's only a loaf of bread. However, many truths have been told and great conversations have been had while I was kneading a batch of bread. One of my greatest dreams is to have an outdoor oven where I can take bread baking back to nature. Someday.....
In regards to hanging clothes, it is also a peaceful time for me. My dog, Paisley, has started "helping" me by taking clothes out of the basket. While this is not peaceful, it has become a fun game for her. I enjoy watching her play and show her happiness.
