Hi, All!

I have been working on the Putting Away for Winter merit badge. I am in the Beginner phase, and getting ready to move to Intermediate.

I froze strawberries from a farmstand, zucchini from my garden, and corn on the cob from the grocery store.

I froze the strawberries whole on a sheetpan for one hour. Then I stored them in freezer bags. I also froze cut up berries in a freezer container. I froze the zucchini on a sheetpan for one hour. I had cut them into coins and they froze well. The corn on the cob was blanched for 3 minutes, then put into ice water for three minutes, dried well and put into freezer bags.

Nancy, that is awesome! Always so much better when the hubbies get involved.

Thank you for the encouragement, Krista! I am having a great time on this journey. My husband is actually getting involved! He says that it would be fun to know how to have a freezer and cupboard full of freshly stored food! He is actually beginning to eat zucchini! He says that he doesn't want our granddaughter to think he's is sissy. . .she helped me plant it.I love it!

Congratulations Nancy on your Beginner Badge. Those extra fruits and veggies are really going to come in handy when you need them later on! Good luck with your intermediate badge. I look forward to see what you put away.

Krista
