I've never tried gooseberries either - I will search for them when we head to Hood River soon, hopefully I can find some!

I stopped off at the little German Deli in Spokane, and picked up a jar of Gooseberry jam! Yummy!

Grace, it looks like I can grow them here. Apparently they like cold winters. I’ll have to see if I can find any to give a try in my garden.

It's hard to explain their taste,, but if you like Kiwis, grapes and strawberries all rolled into one.. you'll like Gooseberries.. at least I do!

I have never had Gooseberries as they don't grow down here. What do they taste like? Are the similar to other berries? Do they make good jam?

I love Gooseberries,, when I lived with my Oma (german grandma) she had Gooseberry bushes along the fence line.. They are hard to describe, taste wise..
But very palatable... and great for preserves.
The bushes, depending on the variety range in size, as well as color and throne or thornless. I have grown both and see no difference in taste.
I like just picking them off the branches and popping them into my mouth after I have watered everything.. sort of my reward for working in my garden.
I don't think Gooseberries are as popular here in the USA,, but in Germany, they are a garden staple kind of like grapes..
