Yummy Grace! Loved those German pretzels but even more so, I LOVE dampfnudels!! Especially after we skied! Sirting down on a deck, looking over the mountain and snow with a hot coffee and plum filled dampfnudel(?) that had like a hot vanilla cream sauce over it! How I wish I could find a recipe or mix for that!! Then there were quirkiness at Easter....sigh....miss those days

Sheila,, I have actually seen the mix at "World Market-Cost Plus"..
But I usually order my German food products from either Germanshop24.com or yammibazzar.com or Hoyer German foods...
Sometimes Yammibazzar has free shipping, Germanshop24 charges a flat $25 and Hoyer charges depending on weight/size

Where do you buy the packets of mixes? I am German but have not been there in a long time. I took my son when he was a Freshman in college and he is in his 30's now. We went to where I was born and then stayed with a second cousin. It was not at Christmas I would like to go sometime when it is.

Yum!! I love homemade pretzels…who am I kidding? I love almost anything that is baked into breads, cakes, cookies, pies, carbs…

Last time I made homemade pretzels, my friends made fun of me because they looked like “dog turds” after they baked!!!! Hahaha

Karen :)

Those look delicious Grace! Did you make the dough bowl cover?or do you buy them? That is a genius idea! I have only used towels.

Ong,,, Heather.. do make it a priority to visit.. just ask Debbie Fischer, Winnie or Linda-quiltee… we will tell you all about the sights, music and fabulous smells of the scents of the season..
There is something about strolling through the Christmas outdoor market, the smells of spices and baked goods, the scent of Glühwein in the cold crisp air, the music and just the noise of happy people sharing a lovely stroll through the market center.
Then there are the friendly vendors displaying their hand crafted ornaments and other goodies.
I am not a big crowd person, but Christmas fest is the exception.. Everyone is so happy.

My mouth is watering!!! I love to bake just don't have the time right now. That's one of the things I like about winter - so many baked goodies :) That is awesome that you visited the place the bread mix came from. Visiting Germany is on my one day list. Those Christmas markets you've mentioned sound wonderful!!!

Debbie,,, lol!

here is the funny thing, the bread mix is made in Bad Wimpfen,, which is a small village about 20mins from where my childhood BFF, Irmgard lives.... she and I went there once,, I had no idea that there was a company that made bread mix..

Next week I might try this Bauerbrot mix that I bought at the German store…
Fingers crossed I do a better job.

Thank goodness I can translate, how ever I will have to use my calculator to convert the Celsius to Fahrenheit..
For those of you who bake from scratch, I envy you… but baking is not my passion, how ever eating fresh baked goodies is!!!

Tada! Pretzels!
How ever I am not 100% pleased with how they turned out.. yummy yes, but not shiny… so I touched base with my friend in Pennsylvania, and she said she dips her pretzels in boiling water with baking soda.. I used food grade Lye..
like I said, they tasted wonderful, especially with Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread on it…
