Has anyone ever, or does or has planted Elderberry bushes?

I am very interested but not sure how well they would due here in my 4A/B zone...
I have planted Blueberries which did so-so..

Last year I planted Huckleberries but it got cold to soon and they were weeks away from picking... but several unexpected freeze & snow killed all 3 bushes.. bummer..

So, I am thinking about Elderberries..
Any thoughts??

Elderberries used to grow wild on the side of the road here. All the spraying for weeds killed them off. I bought some from Stark Bros and they are growing well. I had to fence them in because the deer or maybe something else likes them. Stark Bros says you need 2 types. I believe it because 2 years after I planted them I found another one on our property. It is among the sumac and blended in. You can take cuttings and plant them if you don't mind waiting. I'm going to try this.

I have been known to pull over and glean elderberries from the side of the road when I am out doing rural appraisals.
I make tincture and syrup.
Grace, "Off Grid With Doug and Stacy" did a lengthy video about 5 yrs ago where they took a field trip to one of the premier growers of elderberries.
My friend here in OH ordered some, and they are doing well.
I believe the company is in MO, so I know they get some cold winters also.
Here is a link to their page to buy plants/starts etc.

They also sell elderberry products.
I love cooking them, they smell wonderful!

Sara,, sounds like the "secrete and sacred" Huckleberries that grow wild around here.. people will not tell anyone where their favorite location is... lol!

Elderberries grow wild in Texas, never knew of anyone who tried to grow them. I take elderberry syrup every morning for my immune system that I buy on Amazon.

True story about a woman I knew who knew where elderberries grew, and she made elderberry jelly every year for the church baraza. She never told anybody where the elderberries were and when she passed, she took that secret with her. That's how serious elderberry jelly makers take the location of elderberries around here.

Elderberries grow wild around here. My husband did propagate some last year. The ones he planted around the chicken yard survived, so far. We steam juice the berries and can. I have dried them and my sister made syrup from them.

We have elderberries!! Several bushes growing abundantly around the pond.. plenty of sunlight and water and they produce well in our humidity and heat Grace but I'm sure they might make some cold tolerant varieties.??
