This was a bitter sweet merit badge for me to work on.
I work with the elderly in home health care and hospice
I have done so for the last 4.5 years. On average, I work 20 to 30 hours per week.
I love working with my clients and their families. They have such interesting life stories and experiences to share. Coming up on March 30th. I will have to spend 6 hours out of the home with my client taking her to different activities to distract her while they pack up her belongings and move her to an assisted living center.
I will be the one who has to drive her to her new place and get her settled.
I hope we can make this transition as easy as possible for her. She does not want to leave her home and has been very resistant.
I plan to continue in this field of work as long as possible even though it can be very hard when they struggle with daily activities or eventually pass away.

Candy, I understand your heart aches working with older folks that now need more help and or facing a terminal illness. I was a Hospice nurse for 11 years, and they were some of the bravest people I have ever met. End of life care is complex and most older people appreciate help and understanding. Keep up your good work. One day, we all will be facing the same challenges of failing health.

Oh Candy I am so sorry. That made me tear up. I hope this process goes smoothly for both you and your client. I bet having you by her side will make things a little easier. You have a very important job. I hope you two can have fun with all your different activities that day.
