Posted - Apr 11 2010 : 5:35:51 PM I love "repurposing" things, finding another use for something. Two of my favorites that I have repurposed are a crystal biscuit jar into a toothbrush holder (left the lid off), and an old but elegant glass decanter as a mouthwash holder. Recently, I reused an old teak and plexiglass breadbox into a "mini hothouse" for baby seedlings. What ideas have you come up with to reuse and repurpose?

Posted - May 09 2013 : 08:15:32 AM I thought this was so clever. One of my knitting students (she is just the neatest lady) came in to my class with a little "present" for me. Apparently she is very allergic to something and must carry multiple EPI-pens with her. The hard plastic, lift-top case they come in is the perfect size and shape for storing multiple crochet hooks! It fits right in my little accessories case, and makes it easy to grab a hook when I drop a stitch.

Posted - Apr 27 2013 : 07:44:23 AM Brenda LOVE your repurpose idea with the Altoids box. I hope I can get these aprons done and don't leave this sitting in a pile forever. Hard to find time to finish projects but I have good intentions! I like the jeweltones and the butterflies and flowers of this vintage fabric.

Posted - Apr 26 2013 : 10:05:33 AM Nicole Pinterest is so addictive! I never cease to be inspired by all the creativity. I found a pretty vintage halter maxi dress from the 70's in excellent condition in a colorful patchwork print. My intention was to sell on Ebay to make a few $$ but as luck would have it right as I finished the listing I was folding it up and noticed a dime-sized hole I hadn't noticed before. I didn't want to sell it damaged like that and was very disappointed. Looking it over I thought what a shame it's in such great shape other than the darn hole in the side that just couldn't be repaired without being noticable. Then it dawned on me I could make an apron out of it and just cut off the damaged section. Actually with it being a long maxi dress I can make a full apron from the top half and another half apron from the bottom part. I have to tell you sisters if it weren't for all the inspiration you folks have blessed me with and the desire to reuse and repurpose a few years ago it would've just been thrown away. The farmgirl sisterhood has helped me get back to my roots and inspire me to take a hard look at what can be done with something that may have a flaw that can still be used in a new and wonderful way. BTW I LOVE your little pink bag! So sweet :-)

Posted - Mar 19 2013 : 2:28:37 PM I've been wanting reusable produce bags for little while. While I was unpacking my groceries yesterday, I looked at the bag my sweet potatoes came in and a light bulb when off. I just hemmed the bag on my sewing machine with a zig zag stitch, then ran a piece of yarn through to be a drawstring. Voila, a reusable bag for my produce so I can use less of the ones at the store.

Posted - Mar 18 2013 : 06:21:15 AM I got this idea on Pinterest. Just finally joined and it is just what I thought...a big time sucker! Boy is it chock full of ideas, though. Anyway saw the idea for this. I repurposed an old tote into a summer purse using fabric scraps. I added an embroidered leaf to my flower and a crystal button in the middle, as well as made a cell-phone pocket for the inside and a snap to keep the top shut. Also made a flat bottom for it by covering cardboard in fabric.

Can't get my photos to stop turning! Sorry!

Posted - Mar 13 2013 : 07:12:04 AM I'm in the middle of two projects -
I'm repurposing an Altoids tin into a mini sewing kit. One component of this is a repurposed magnetized needle holder - My yellow pages phone book came with a advertisement for a dental office printed on a magnet backing - I cut this to fit the inside lid of the Altoids tin and used Mod-Podge to glue it in. I photocopied the cover of a purchased journal that had some artwork that I liked (raspberries, blossoms, birds and butterflies) and mod-podged it to the top and bottom. I'll post a photo when it is complete.
The other project is using a Simplicity pattern to make a cover to repurpose an ice cream bucket as a sewing supplies tote. Not very original, but I am having to make some changes. It seems the ice cream companies have changed the size of the bucket (Smaller, of course, not larger) since the pattern was designed!

Posted - Mar 11 2013 : 09:46:42 AM I've torn an old sheet into strips to crochet a rug, and used the strips to tie up garden plants. Old tee-shirts can be cut into strips for crocheting. My favorite last year was buying dollar tee-shirts at Good will, and making skirts out of them. They are the best summer-time-keep-cool-work-around-the house skirts! |

Posted - Mar 09 2013 : 5:45:31 PM Thank you, Anita!
Annie, for your birdcage can you spray paint it and fill it with trailing plants? Or take the bottom out and set it over a plant in the ground? Oops I see CJ6 mentioned that too.

Posted - Mar 09 2013 : 11:38:58 AM Hello everyone, I was given a pretty large metal birdcage, it is metal but a little ornate. I did not want to throw it out. I asked several people who have birds if they wanted it. Nobody I know wants it.
Does anybody have any ideas about repurposing it?
Thanks, Anne
