Posted - Jul 27 2011 : 12:11:57 PM I have found so much cool stuff over the summer (I have more time to go and look), I wanted to share! Please post your cool finds too! Most of mine were from thrift stores, or a local thrift store warehouse. I don't care for them as it takes WAY too long to find something, BUT on occasion I do- like this burlap bag full of beans! I thought I could make the bag into a pillow. Will see if the beans are any good! $6.00, because it was sold by weight.

My foley food mill, $3.00 and french bistro pitcher, 1 qt. size, $1.50 (half price). I always keep water on the dining table...
Breadbasket $1.50, just dusty and touched up with "old english"

Bread slicer, was missing the end, we cut some scrap plexiglass, works great!

Foley 5 cup sifter, $4.00 vintage store, works!

My husband found a camera tripod, for $6.00, worth over $100.00, boy was he happy!
Pocketwatch clock from the local Habitat Re-Store, $1.50, broken clock part, swapped from an old one I didn't want anymore. Cute! I saw something very close in the Pottery Barn catalog yesterday, was much smaller and over $60.00, wow! It's about 14" across...

I should add- I have gotten great deals over on eBay too- brand new, never worn, black, smooth leather clogs, Halflinger brand, $30.00 (for work), usally around $100.00 new. I HAVE to wear good shoes, stand alot on my job....
Wool sweater, $10.00 like new, was $65.00 new, I had the same one, years ago, wore out, like new! What a find!
Post your cool finds! Let's inspire each other!!!

Posted - May 20 2013 : 3:49:48 PM Hey Girls!
I got two vintage rocking chairs from my DH old family home place. They belonged to his mom and dad. With a little sanding and a fresh coat of paint...they will be my new treasures for the Summer. I love anything that has been passed down from days of old...It just has so much meaning to know you are using something that was so precious and "hard to come by" as the old folks used to say.
Hugs!

Posted - May 19 2013 : 5:05:12 PM Hey Bonnie, I totally understand what you're saying . . . there ARE many advantages to the newer luggage with wheels and adjustable handles. And, those are the ones I use when flying. These older ones are just part of our glamping gear . . . I MIGHT carry one of my made-over traincases as a carryon on the plane. But we'll see when . . .and if . . that time comes.
The squarish cream colored case above is full of my clothes for our upcoming glamping road trip. Perfect for that!!! Robin will be packing hers for that trip as well! CJ

Posted - May 16 2013 : 9:08:52 PM I'm sorry but I am chuckling at you girls and your vintage suitcases. When we were married 51 years ago we had a brand new set of Samsonite suitcases. We thought they were great until we went on our honeymoon and realized that there was a convention in town and we had to walk 3 miles carring them to find a place at a hotel. Those things weighed tons before you even put anything in them. I still have the "train case" and use it for storage. I like the "new"look of suitcase storage but I can't help giggling about our experience.

Posted - Apr 27 2013 : 07:36:24 AM Michele I know what you're saying about taking a break from time to time. I get so into it I end up with stuff sitting everywhere and a bit overwhelmed. It's an addiction, love those awesome bargains. I got these adorable vintage jade green horses yesterday for $4 and this gorgeous lace pattern bowl. It's so fragile, I hope I don't break it, I'm like a bull in a China shop!

Posted - Apr 05 2013 : 10:39:06 AM Well, I found this at our Methodist Thrift yesterday for $1.00! A Samsonite case that is squarish . . 21 x 21 with extra goodies inside. It really only needs cleaning,(which I haven't done yet) no major refurbishing. This will be GREAT for my clothes for our upcoming Glamping Road Trip! And, the cream color matches some of the other pieces I've been able to find! YAY! CJ

Posted - Apr 05 2013 : 06:43:26 AM I haven't been on this thread for a while so I'm just getting caught up on all of the wonderful treasures you guys are finding.
Darn it, CJ!! I'm getting sick of all the cute baskets and suitcases you are finding, you lucky lady! You need to put a sign outside of your thrift store telling people their new donation drop off is at the St. Vinnies in Fort Atkinson, WI so I can score some of the awesome stuff you find! :) Love it!
Anita, I just love the suitcase filled with patterns! It's like a farmgirl treasure chest!
Heading to St. Vinnies today. We'll see if I can find any good deals like all of you! :)

Posted - Apr 04 2013 : 2:58:53 PM Some of us glamping farmgirls went thrifting during our recent Backyard Glamper Party & Sleepover.
This is my daughter, Robin . . . aka "Birdie" . . with her #3.00 Samsonite suitcase find (it needs the lining replaced which I'm going to do for her) and her cute skirt. She just put it on over her jeans to see if it fit and just wore to the counter to pay for it. She jokingly asked if she could get a discount for modeling it . . .the folks in the thrift were great folks and just plain friendly . . .but I don't recall if she got a discount or not. Then she wore it to some other stops we made. A fun day! CJ

Posted - Apr 03 2013 : 2:02:13 PM Found a candle stick lamp for 1.50. It had the orginial tag on it, marked $17. There is a huge rummage sale at the armory. I'm so going but with a list. I need to not impulse buy. I'm looking for gardening items, pillow cases, rubber stamps and buttons for crafting.
