Posted - Aug 24 2013 : 07:58:52 AM Hey girls
I thought that an ongoing thread would be encouraging. Everyday post a way that you have saved money for the week. It may be something as little as turned off the faucet while doing dishes to making your own bread to what have you
Something you share may seem obvious but not to all. We can all glean and learn from each other.
So... who wants to start?

Posted - Nov 14 2022 : 11:44:05 AM Hay there. I have been cooking from my freezer and my pantry. I didn't get to can anything this year but I have been shopping the BOGO's and using coupons and IBOTTA for extra savings. I now keep my grandson since I retired. That makes crockpot meals and dinner prep alot easier since i'm home all the time. I also cook double batches to avoid daily kitchen time. I just reheat leftovers. Also, I'm being more frugal with gas by only doing one errand day a week and that saves me gas since I'm 30 miles from the stores. I love reading how everyone saves money. Way to go, girls! Hugs.

Posted - Oct 30 2022 : 8:39:59 PM I send my husband to the store with a list. He's less apt to impulse buy. Big savings for me! And it frees me up to do other things while he's taking care of the shopping. Win Win!
There is something to be grateful for every day.

Posted - Jul 13 2019 : 6:11:39 PM I baked some cookies this week and my son started laughing at me. I wondered what was so funny and he told me he couldn't believe I still wiped crumbs from my waxed paper and saved it to reuse. I had done that all my life. When I was a child my parents were poor and mom always said, " Waste not, want not". I took that to heart and have always tried to be fugal. I had to start laughing, too. I do reuse waxed paper and aluminum foil as well

Posted - Jul 05 2019 : 5:21:55 PM Great idea Winnie. The price of paper towels has increased so much. I hate to pay the price for them. Yesterday I even started using cloth napkins instead of paper ones. My husband is always using paper plates to save on dishes and I told him we would not be doing that anymore. I love to sit down to a table that uses real plates. It makes the atmosphere more enjoyable. It also saves money.

Posted - Jul 05 2019 : 06:45:01 AM Love hearing all these great money saving ideas! I started using old washcloths, that I keep in a basket, instead of paper towels in my kitchen. They are easily washed with other dark items and then restock the basket. At first it took some getting use to, but now I think I like the washcloths much better because they absorb better. They were just filling up a kitchen drawer and it was a great way to be more "green" and to save on paper towels.

Posted - Jul 03 2019 : 1:30:54 PM Lori & Krista well done on saving money. I saved $24 plus some change on this week's groceries by shopping the sales. Several items went into the pantry to be used in the coming weeks/months.

Posted - Jul 03 2019 : 1:23:35 PM I saved some money this week by buying a whole pineapple rather than a precut one. It's amazing the price difference. Plus I find they taste better and I get more when I cut them myself. This was my first whole pineapple and I will definitely be buying them that way from now on.

Posted - Jul 02 2019 : 7:18:40 PM I am all about saving money. One thing I am doing to save money is make my morning cup of coffee at home. What a saving that is. Buying a cup of coffee every day can really add up. I am also making my own cleaning supplies using a lot of vinegar. It is amazing how much one can save doing that. I have also talked my hubby into eating at home more often. It is just the two of us and we got into the habit of eating out a lot. Fixing meals at home saves a lot.

Posted - Jan 08 2019 : 06:17:03 AM Great plan, Daizy!!! You are off to a great start!!! Food is a big way to cut expenses - I struggle with that due to various dietary needs we have to meet. But I try to keep us at about $100 a week - including dog food and some misc. things - toothpaste, etc.
All Recipes website has a search feature that lets you search for recipes based on certain ingredients - maybe try that if you are looking for ides to use up certain things in your pantry/freezers.
Our frugal update: We were super excited to pay off the truck last month! That takes care of both vehicles - working on the camper now!
Needed some clothes for work so I went to TJ Max and got a new dress and two sweaters for $50 - which is pretty good. Retail on the dress alone was $98! |

Posted - Jan 05 2019 : 8:39:55 PM This is great Daizy. Here are my tricks. Save all the juices from canned foods, steaming and boiling vegetables to put into a crockpot soup. Buy "ugly" vegetables. They are cheaper because they are bruised or have small bits of mold on them that can be cut off. I chop them up and put them into my Famous Crockpot Soup. Mince the end part of the vegetable which we usually cut off. These can be mixed with flour or potatoes and fried. Good luck!

Posted - Jan 05 2019 : 08:51:52 AM Hay there.
I have joined a January pantry challenge. That means for the whole month I try to eat out of my pantry/freezer/fridge and cut my grocery bill in half. I have a goal of only 65.00 for food costs for this month. So....on Dec. 31 I checked in fridge and found a dozen eggs which I boiled on Jan. 1st. Two eggs for breakfast each morning and some in a salad also, til they are gone. Also eating all the leftovers and freezing some for later. Yesterday, at work, my boss likes to go out to eat and I am always compelled to join her but not this time!! I made a samitch and added some carrots that needed to be eaten before they spoiled and that was my lunch .... she ordered at the restaurant and I opened up my lunch sack!! Whoo Hooo. I did run out of coffee and had to purchase a can but that will last me about 6 months.....so that's a dollar spent plus a loaf of bread for 1.50. This challenge has made me more aware of planning. One of my goals for 2019 is to have NO food waste. Use it all!!! I have to run and put strawberries into the freezer, now, so they won't spoil. And my grapes need to get washed and be ready to pop in my mouth before they go bad also. Making 2019 a FRUGAL year!!!
Hugs, Daizy
