Alee had a great idea this morning for our next contest since our Pinkeeper contest was such a huge success. Let's do it now with our Christmas trees!!! (Rose from the Mountain Farmgirl Chapter in Idaho City gifted us an entire box of handpainted hand-shaped clay ornaments that she had made. I can't imagine the hours that went into them.) Alee: "Ideas for decorating could be yo-yo garlands, the traditional popcorn and cranberry garlands, homemade ornaments, and sewn things. It would be really cute to see someone make a garland of mini aprons or something!"

We'll get the necessary legal rules posted within the next two weeks and tell you how. Alee@maryjanesfarm.org can be on call if any of you have trouble posting photos.

When we are in GA and KY we get to stay one night with the extraordinary Miss Wilma. Miss Wilma does a lot of sewing for us and was featured in one of our magazines and also my Stitching Room book. For several years, she's been making the Christmas stockings we sell in our online store and at our Farm Fair. This year, she's been hard at work on a variety of Project F.A.R.M. (First-class American Rural Made) tree ornaments. Those will be posted in our store sometime in October. I think you'll love them.

Look for my new book, "MaryJane's Stitching Room," in bookstores now. Coming next in 2008: "MaryJane's Outpost Guidebook - for Cultivating Your Inner Wild."

Oh this is something the Mountain Farmgirls will embrace! We have a festival of trees in Boise each year and have been discussing donating a tree from us (for Christmas of 08') decorated entirely with hand made ornaments from our chapter members.

We definately will become busy crafting up fun stuff for this!

Thanks for keeping the creative juices flowing!

We are never alone in the forest of Sisters! We "Mountain Farmgirls" are outstanding in our field!

YAY! I'm a Christmas fairy, this is going to be so much fun. I'm attempting to make handmade felted wool folkloric ornaments this year.
Oh my heavens this is going to be so fun. I love showing off my projects, even if they aren't perfect.

I LOVE Christmas!

But, what if you can't craft a stick person, let alone cute ornaments or darling apron garlands, and have to rely on your checkbook to make your tree pretty?

Please bear that in mind when you make up the rules...some of us aren't crafty/creative, at all. Really.

Kate-

Do you remember cutting out snowflakes out of paper when you were little? Maybe you could get some pretty paper and dress it up with glitter and such and then cut out pretty snow flakes? Or perhaps I can help you find some fool proof craft ideas- what do you think?

*hugs*

Oh Alee, you are so sweet. I can't even do that!!!! I did strand my own garlands out of beads, does that count? That I could handle. LOL

Actually, my tree is really pretty, it is mostly white, silver and clear ornaments. "Joy" is the main theme. There are a few colored ornaments (family ones) and Krinkles from Dept 56. My tree and some stockings for the kids and doggie is about all I do for decorating because my house looks too cluttered otherwise.
I wouldn't enter it in the "contest", but I would post a picture to join in the fun.

this sounds like lots of fun. I plan on making a "homespun" Christmas tree this year with all ornaments being handmade.

Wow! Yes! I think stringing your own garland beads would certainly count as a craft! Don't get disheartened! Stay tuned for more information as the contest going!

My kids (adults & teens)all make fun of my tree cause it looks a bit primitive. They call it the Charlie Brown look. That's how I know it's a success!!!
Mostly wool & rusy tin - I love primative.

This will be fun!!

I just got back from a trip from my aunt (Miss Wilma)'s house. She has just spinning up some very creative ornaments that are just adorable. I won't spill the beans on what they are but I think you guys will enjoy them. :)

Chritmas is right up my alley. I usually put up 8 to 10 trees in my house, all with varying themes. It is a ton of work, so I do not know how many more years I will do this. But still love to create MORE ornaments every year...and I am sure I will never stop doing this!
Can't wait to read the rules and get started!

I can do that. I have not posted to blog very much lately...all my time has been spent on research and posting headstone photos on findagrave.com
It is a place to leave memorials, post photos of family members and voluteer to take photos of requested headstones. In other words, say you want a picture of the headstone of Aunt Martha, may sound morbid to some, but if you work on genealogy you know this can be very informative for your research. If Aunt Martha is buried on Idaho and you live in Virginia, how are you going to get a picture of that headstone? Post a request on findagrave.com and someone in that area will 'claim' it for you and go take a photograph of the headstone and post it on the website for you. So I get requests to photograph headstones in my area and so off I go with my camera. I do like cemeteries, so this is fun for me and I am doing something to help someone else further their research or connect to their heritage.
So blogging has been left in the dust sometimes for days at a time. I do have good intentions to post every day or so, but it just does not happen that way!
But I will keep it in mind for Christmas.
I personally can't wait until the snow flies! Bring it on!

Pam,
That all sounds very interesring. I like cemeteries too, very peaceful, don't want to be in one anytime soon to stay, but I do like to visit. Richard and I find old ones and walk around in them.
