What amazing entries!!!! Carol has given Meg and me all the info and we'll get started on our decision. We plan to post the winners day after tomorrow, Sunday the 23rd, before 5 p.m.

What a wonderful Christmas present this contest is to everyone. A feast for the eyes. Thank you EVERYONE for joining us in such a festive way.

Holiday Love and Blessings,

MaryJane, Sister #1

P.S. We had our office holiday party today, mmmm, the FOOD was YUM! My hubby entertained us all with his perfect rendition of Julia Child, then John Wayne (this involved a conversation between Julia and John), then Click & Clack from NPR. (And it was an alcohol-free party!)

Look for my new book, "MaryJane's Stitching Room," in bookstores now. Coming next in 2008: "MaryJane's Outpost Guidebook - for Cultivating Your Inner Wild."

Announcing the Winners!

Grand Prize: HANDMADE
Tracey G.
Gross Isle, Michigan

We love the fact that Tracey and her husband keep bees for a hobby. Since honeybees have had such a rough go of it in the last year, we think her tree is a great tribute to the hard-working honeybee.

Tracey made all her ornaments entirely out of beeswax-melted down in a double boiler before being poured into cookie molds-then painted by hand in gold leaf because the name of their beekeeping operation is called “Island Gold.” Stunning tree!

Grand Prize: STOREBOUGHT
Jessica C.
Versailles, Kentucky

We love the fact that all Jessica’s ornaments were either purchased from crafters in Kentucky or purchased as antiques. Her little antique boy angel holding a stick snowman completely captured our hearts.

(Jonni L. of Covington, KY and Joy M. of Monticello, KY were in this same category, store-bought but handmade. Jonni has accumulated hers over many years as she traveled around the world-a memory travel tree. Since all these gals are in Kentucky, we hope to meet all three of them! Beautiful!!)

Best Collaborative Effort, FARMERETTE HANDMADE

Unfortunately, when we designed the categories for winners, we didn’t think to add a special category for FARMERETTE.

The tree labeled Wendy, Chapter Entry, Handmade, Herriman, Utah were ornaments made entirely by her three daughters, who have formed a farmerette chapter called Queridas. The girls are only 10, 8, and 6 years old, making this tree even more extraordinary. Since it was hard enough narrowing the honorable mentions down to three, we decided to give Queridas an honorable mention in its own category of BEST COLLABORATIVE EFFORT. For this prize, we hope the girls will let us feature their tree along with photos of the three girls who designed it in next years’ winter issue of MaryJanesFarm.

Honorable Mentions

FREE-STYLE
Tina W.
Storebought
Panama City, Florida

Tina’s tree was one of Meg’s favorites because it was decorated in such a lively mix of just about everything, “similar to my tree.” Gorgeous free-style!!

MOST EFFORT
Veronica C. & David K.
Storebought
Toronto, Canada

We were entranced by the shear number of lights (700!), the metal stars hung by white satin, the cranberry garland mixed with real acorns, the delicate red, blue, and clear glass bulbs, and finally the array of doves from silver to clear frosted glass with a beautiful vintage wooden dove perched on top. The tree is surrounded in a red skirt with embroidered snowflakes. WOW!!!!! We lost our breath just thinking about how much effort this took.

SWEETEST STORY
Lea B.
Handmade
Scotts Hill, Tennessee

Lea’s tree is a tribute to a precious Appalachian farmgirl-her grandmother, Barbara Carter. All of the ornaments of her tree are sewing notions from her grandmother’s sewing box that was given to Lea when her grandmother passed away.

She even hung her grandmother’s old-fashioned eyeglasses in the very center. In honor of her grandmother, Lea also crafted a few yo-yo’s. “All the tinsel in the world cannot hold the sparkle that this little tree holds in my heart.”

I am typing this for the girls as they tell me what to say ( so if it sounds odd that is why)

8 year old: Thank you for putting us in honorable mention and I like you! I made the angel that goes on top of the our tree and she looks pretty. Good Bye

6 year old: It's good to feel nice but we didn't have to be in the magazine that was nice and so I hope you have a good time. I hope you have a great time and I think you should have a nice day

10 year old: Thank you for putting us in the magazine I hope your Christmas will be bright and merry! ( on a side note when I told this one about the prize she said that was better than first prize she thought that was just great)

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

I keep meaning to put up my comments on the trees...I love them all!!! You gals have so much creativity and ideas. :)

Wendy - That is a very adorable wall hanging and very creative! Your daughter's ornaments are just too cute and creative. Lots of hard work went into their tree. :)

Tracey - I had no clue that your tree ornaments were from beeswax. I kept wondering what it was made out of. That is just too neat and creative. What kind of molds do you use?

Bobbi's was just full of ornaments! Too cute.

Lea - I have never seen such huge wooden spools. What a neat idea.

Carrie - I really love your idea of the stockings around the bottom of the tree.

Tina - I love your Christmas decorations! You have a beautiful tree all lit up. I just realize that your star is something that I have on another tree in my house.

Debi - You just gave me an idea of doing photos as ornaments for next year. I think it would be cute for a tree to have all the kids and grandkids with their baby photos in it.

Joy - I LOVE the rustic feeling with your tree. Where did you get that big red bead from?

Danielle - Cute kids! I can imagine their bright sunny faces on Christmas morning opening up presents by that beautiful tree!

Williams - That tree is just gorgeous with all those colors. I love how you put flowers in with it and then have the greenery on the wall.

Amy - I really like the blue and silver in your tree. I like the little stockings overhead too.

Jonni - Goodness that is a tall tree! I love how the star illuminates on the ceiling too!

Tasha -I love the blue & white. It is just full of ornaments & decorations!

Anne - I love that handpainted Santa ornament. Did you paint that yourself?

Alee - That is a very creative idea on doing the ornaments.

Veronica - I really love those doves. I like that tree skirt with the snowflakes embroidered.

Amy - I see you have those little Smores figurines too. I have a small collection of them.

Sage - That is just a huge tree and looks great with all those lights and decorations!

Tammy - I love the handmade ornaments! You have a lot of talent with all your little ornaments.

Rebecca - I love the tree and the angel ornaments - it is just gorgeous!

All the trees are so lovely.

Thank you, MaryJane & Megan, for your honorary mention. My grandmother would be so pleased and I am so proud for her!
