It’s time for the farmgirl posse to ride again! Or in my case, write again. I’ve signed a contract to begin delivering weekly columns to newspapers across the country, and that’s where you come in. I’d love your help. Here’s how. Get in touch with your local newspaper (letter, phone call, visit) and nudge them into carrying my column, “MaryJane’s Everyday Organic.” Let them know you’re on board and why—that you’re someone who cares, who dares, and most importantly, who loves to share what MaryJane represents for you; that you want to see more of what MaryJane has put voice to; that her simple solutions for buying less, eating better, and getting more out of life are something you’d like to see them carry. That’s it. It’s as simple as that!

Good luck and let me know WHO you contacted and WHEN by dropping me a line at column@maryjanesfarm.org

Here’s the little bit of info you’ll need:

“MaryJane’s Everyday Organic” weekly column is distributed by United Feature Syndicate, the same people who bring you features like Miss Manners, Sense & Sensitivity, Animal Doctor, Peanuts, and Dilbert). Newspapers can email lwilson@unitedmedia.com to find out more.

Mary Jane-
I really hope lots of papers pick this up.
I contacted a friend that is on staff at the paper in our closest city, Lake Charles. I sure hope they take a look at it!!

Thanks for a great bunch of resources and encouragement. I am currently devouring 2 magazines and can't tell you how anxious I am to get started on the new projects in them!!!

Blessings,

I will get in touch with the Tallahassee Democrat. They do have Miss Manners. It is not very progressive, however, We often call it The Mullet Wrapper. For those of you who do not know what a mullet is, it is a fish, not a haircut!!!! :)

A little nudge will be sent to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by me. Of course, that would mean I have to actually read it now. ;) Miss Wilma has a great idea- sending along copies of what you do would be the perfect introduction!

Does anyone have a suggestion of who in the paper might be the best to contact about this? The lifestyle editor, the publisher, etc.? I live in a pretty big city and there are several different people listed on the contact page and I'd like to mail/email the people who'd be most likely to have a say in this.

Elizabeth- At the Billings Gazette I talked to the Managing Editor because the Editor in Chief was busy. If you are unsure, whoever answers the phone should direct you to the proper desk if you explain the situation. I wasn't sure who to talk to either! :D

Thank you Karen, my point is this it is a wonderful magazine and book , Our paper usually runs some sort of Green article often, Now I wont give them my mag and book but I will loan them to them, We have a lot of people into organic farming in our little countY. Another idea for the farmers coops would they be interested in selling subscriptions, And maybe some farm girls would like a little extra change and could sell subscriptions, I n other words sell the mag collect the pay. You never know if something will work unless you try

I was going to contact the Arkansas Democrat but I see Julie is already 'on it"....you go girl! But if there is anything I can do to further this along just let me know! We have a teensy tiny paper here in Horseshoe but they don't even pay their writers...they're all volunteer so that's a no go.

I called the local paper and they said they can't order any new because of their budget must be approved at the fiscal year. But, she wants me to bring a magazine down so she can take a look.
So, I am hopeful for the beginning of the year. I will contact the Sioux Falls paper and see if they will and maybe I will have to change my subscription.

I contacted the Lake County/Waukegan News-Sun just now & gave them the link to your site so they could "get to know you." It is our local paper, I grew up reading it & my brother was once a paperboy for them. I sure hope they take my suggestion!! I would love to see MaryJane's column run!!!
