Hi everyone!Siobhan and Yart(Rachel) welcome! I live in se michigan also...ever get down around monroe? I'd love to see other farm girls but,so far...everyone lives too far away from me.
By the way anyone know of land available up north...we've started to look, and are hoping for 20+ acreas with some woods,a pond would be a great bonus for swimming, and out a ways though not too far.

CJ6 - I get down to Monroe all the time. DH and I have looked for years to get property there. But the timing has never been right. I was just at the New Walmart Friday night.

It probably won't be until sometime next week or the middle of the month before I have some free time again. But I would love to meet up with another Farm Girl!!

Hey Yart,
Welcome to ya.
My sister and I are in Brighton. If you get over that way, let us know.
Hey girls, I'm gettin' cabin fever. Been stuck in the house taking care of my daughter who fell and broke her leg. She has too many steps into her apartment so she is staying here. Always good to have Mom take care of you when you are hurt, besides, I love to cook so she's eating gooooood.
My computer has been down for weeks so I am back on MJF for the first time in quite a while. Miss all of you and thinking we need to plan a spring outing.
Went to a sweet tra room in Tecumseh a while back. There is also a quilt shop, consignment shop hobby shop and some antique stores in town. Anybody up for a Spring road trip????

Sounds fun Michele! What would a road trip entail? I could maybe do just a weekend thing. But I'd have to know WELL in advance because the spring is already filling up for me :)

Sorry ladies, but I will have to take a rain check if you all plan on doing a road trip soon. I messed up my ankle and the doc says that best case scenario is a month before I'm back to me old self.

Vintage Diva ~ I don't usually get out to Brighton but I'm sure we can make some type of arrangements to meet up sometime!

Hello everyone,
Its great to see people from Michigan lol normally when I join something like this people are always like you live in Michigan:? Why? Anyway, I'm from Mulliken which is right outside of Lansing about 15 miles or so.

Time for brainstoming!!!
When (probably April) and where can we have a get together so we can meet all the new farmgirls?
There must be a central location (Lansing??) where we could meet and have lunch and put together a tentative agenda of events.
Sooooo, let's discuss a date and place and bring all of our ideas

Hey...I just did a quick check through the forum and there are 16 of us actually here in MI... 17 with N@N who has a cabin here in the summer....!!! WOOT! Oh...and 1 farmgirl just across the border into Indianna... I think Beverly is the farthest North so far in Atlanta, just east of Gaylord. Then there is Michelle/Sarah/and Melissa over there on the west coast in Manistee, South Haven, and Fennville. There are several of us down near Detroit area...and I think Battle Creek might just be the farthest south. Ooops nope...Monroe is even farther south than BC...wow! Cj6 is almost to Toledo! So anywhere down here will be a hike for Beverly way up in the tip of the mitten. Has anyone heard from anyone in the UP?

They have a wonderful farmer's market in Lansing and a lovely co-op in East Lansing. East Lansing also has a nice outdoor mall (Eastwood Towne Center...I think) with a rather wide choice of eating (irish, chinese, delis, bbq (I think)). The mall is just across the freeway from Country Stitches Quilt shop. Also the Historical Museum in Lansing...right down the way from the best fresh roasted peanuts. There are the Lansing Lugnuts baseball and I think their season begins in April. That is all I can think of off the cuff for brainstorming. I know both locations offer lots more and I guess it just depends what everyone is up for???? Oh, and the University has a large event center where animal shows (lots of horse) go on and the spring home show. Will have to look that one up to remember the name.

East Wood Town center has some very wonderful shops and restaurants. The claddagh irish pub is a favorite of mine.

I didnt know that Lansing had a farmers market! Though I'm not surprised and The Michigan Historical Museum as well as the Capitol are always fun to visit. I havent been to a lugnuts baseball game in years lol. But I live right outside of Lansing so I am game for any of these events. If we do Lansing or really anything in Michigan.

Also sometimes Schuler's Book Store has famous authors visiting in the East Wood Town Center.

And, around the first of May, Grand Ledge (right outside of Lansing) has what is known as Victorian Days. These are always great fun. You can even dress up for them.

I would LOVE to meet up in Lansing! That would be fun. I'm open in April all weekends, but the weekend of the 24th.

Grand Ledge is fun! I love to watch the rock climbers at the Ledges (but haven't been in years)...They also have/had a great craft mall there too. THAT was worth the trip the last time. Those Victorian Days looks like a lot of fun. I've done a bit of shopping downtown there too. Looks like last year they had a civil war encampment/quilt show/parade...even a high tea! That might just be the ticket we are all looking for? I didn't see a schedule for this year though at the website...just from 2009. It was the first weekend in May. The Chamber of Commerce website says May 1.

Mulliken is actually ten minutes from Grand Ledge and I grew up there.
I havent seen a flier for the Victorian Days this year yet, but I can keep a look out. They have the civil war encampment, quilt show and parade every year. There is also a pie contest, costume contest horse buggy rides. ferry boat rides, hot dog stands, and some other activities.

I suggest we meet at east towne mall for lunch and discuss other activities we'd like to schedule. If we all bring our calendars and ideas we could set up a tentative events list.
This would probable be a good idea as we all have busy agendas and if we set up a calendar in advance we could try to clear time for it.
Let's get a date down to meet in Lansing
How is march 27, April 10 or 17.?
If anyone can't come to Lansing but wants to host an event, contact me and I will make sure you are represented at the meeting.
This all sounds very organized, but believe me, when we get together it is pretty loose and casual. So don't be freaked.

I'm up for some lunch. I'll probably be ready for some time "away" by the 27th but 4/10 would work for me too.

I'm opened for a lunch date at Eastwood town center. Hoping I dont get lost again along the way lol.
I can try and request the 27th of March off. Though I dont know if i will get it because it will be very close to when I get back from vacation.
Though April might work better.

Hi everyone, lansing does sound nice and since I have a sister in lansing I have a place to stay. But sometime in april I will be going to california to see my grandchildren so make your plans and if I can come I will but since my daughter is making my trip plans right now I don't have dates. so My would be better for me but by all means make your date and then fill me in with the other details. I would love to meet all the new ones. That is exciting to have so many new farm friends. And also I did talk to a farm friend in the UP sometime ago but I don't know if she is still on MJF's or not.? Haven't see her for a while and I cannot remember her name, sorry!!! It is soooo nice to see a lot of new members!!!!! cool!!!
