Well here's a big hug and an even bigger thank you to brook and ruth. Brook sent me the nicest bag that when you put it in the sun it puts color into the picture, so cool!!!! and ruth , I received yours today and it is also really cute. It is a crocheted i think one with a really cute flower on it. both are so different than I have ever seen and I will be using them a lot cause I hate those plastic bags you get when you go grocery shopping. thanks to both of you soooo much. I just love them both!!!!!!

Hey "Futters" . . . thanks for the pic. I'd like to coordinate with what I wear, but I just don't want to go to the effort to change things out. But, then since I'm a caregiver for my sister at her house for my job . . . well, no one really sees me and what I carry . . . or wear. You have fun with those bags!!! THANKS!! CJ

Well, I grew up on a potato farm here in southwest Colorado and I laughed when I saw the bag because it opened up the floodgates of memories of the BA-ZILLION potatoes that have gone through my hands!! Mercy me!!! It's not the BAG that was funny, it was the memories!!!
We raised acres and acres of several varieties of potatoes. We cut, planted, picked, cleaned, washed, sorted and bagged potatoes . . . did I say a BA-ZILLION of them!!??
I didn't figure it out until later but after one particular incident at the spud cutting machine when I got mad at my cutting partner, my dad assigned me to cutting a lot!!! It was because I was his fastest potato cutter kid!!! I hated it!! It was cold, stinky, dirty . . . and we had to be SO-O-O-O careful not to cut our fingers and we wore out pairs and pairs of gloves!!!
I didn't mind planting them . . . we rode on a 2 person planter machine and the weather had to be nice in order to plant, so that wasn't so bad.
Picking meant riding on another machine and cleaning off all the clumps of dirt, etc. The weather had to be pretty nice for this too, but we were in school usually by picking time and we had very little time to do anything else but school and pick potatoes.
Cleaning and sorting was miserable because the water was COLD, the sorting room was COLD . . . and it was at night . . .:(. We also had to go help bag them up for the local market . . . at night, in the cold!!!!
Then the market for 'taters went to pieces and my dad quit planting them . . . not soon enough.
Anyway, Melanie . . . I am the daughter of a Scottish/Irish potatoe farmer (who raised many other crops) . . . and that bag made me remember and laugh.
So, thank you for the memories!!!! The smell of the burlap bag helped stir it all up . . . CJ
