Can you identify these birds? If you can, you win a prize from me. I'll send the first person who can identify them a gift.

Is it a Great Blue Heron? I can't really tell what color they are. They are beautiful birds.

The top of their heads are red, if that helps! Thanks Dorinda you're a good farmgirl for letting the other gals have a chance. They fly over the house every morning early and sound like what would you say, pre-historic birds! That's what they sound like to me.

We have a winner!Kristin you are right, they are Sandhill Cranes! We have them all over Deltona. Poppa and Mamma with two or three chicks all fluffy and cute by the side of the road eating bugs. We have the most lakes in one city around so they nest here as well. This is a family pair with the chick now with full color only smaller than the parents.
Email me your address so I can send you your gift. Thanks everyone for playing.
If anything else shows up we'll play another round of guess that wild life!

Osprey are smaller and people mistake them for eagles all the time. They are so beautiful and we have lots of them around here too!

Any butterfly experts like myself on here? I'll post another picutre of a butterfly that is here in Florida and see if you can guess what it is. More gifts too!

Marsha, thank you! I will email you. This was fun. We have lots of the Herons here and they look prehistoric. They are so big with all those legs and beak. Very pretty birds.

Well, those are both good guesses but the name of this butterfly is a "painted lady". It looks so much like the Monarch it's hard to tell the difference.
My email notifications are still not working right so if I'm a day late replying that is why.
Thanks for playing round 2 of guess that wild life.

If I can get to my camera fast enough when more birds come to the feeder I'll have another bird later this week. Be on the lookout!

My neighbor grows certain vegetables in her front yard to encourage wild bunnies to eat there. Well, they end up in all our yards looking for stuff. They are overunning the neighborhood, yet she sets live traps for squirrels. Often complains about crows. I love wildlife and don't like seeing them trapped or poisoned (we find a lot of dead crows around). Has anyone else encountered a neighbor or a situation like this?

We have a neighbor that feeds Farrel cats and the streets are over running with them. The local animal control caught 50 in one week. She can't afford to have them spayed. The cat fights are not pleasant to hear late at night either.

My brother in Texas says his neighborhood is overrun with rabbits. He traps them and takes them about four miles away and releases them. I told him four miles wasn't far enough but he seemed to think it was. There is a family of foxes where I live, so no rabbits and the woodchucks seemed to have disappeared as well. Anytime there are no predators around, the rabbits are going to flourish.
