I was out of brown sugar a few months back, and discovered a recipe for it! Now I always make my own. I can control how dark it is, which is really nice for recipies that specify either light or dark brown sugar.

All you do is take 1 cup sugar and add 1-2 TBSP of molasses (2 TBSP will give you dark brown sugar). Easy peasy! Mix it all together with a fork and you're ready to go! There is a part in the process where the sugar will get kinda clumpy, but just keep working it and it'll turn out fine!

I never new you could do that how cool is that. I am going to make some today. I have some organic sugar and would love to use that instead of buying it. Thanks for the info.

Excellent tip! One less thing I have to buy. That is awesome. No more trying to keep pounds of brown sugar soft!

Can this be stored or does it have to be used up right away? I have plenty of sugar. My hubby drives a truck and he just got a bunch of bags of sugar that had a few opened so they wouldn't take them. I like when that happens. I use white sugar to make kambucha and to put in the hummingbird feeders only. And I bought a gallon of molasses. So was just wondering about storing it for a long time.

Kristin, I just store mine with the little terra cotta bear that keeps it moist, and I've never had a problem! :)
