Do any of you cook for the month or week and freeze until ready to use? I'd really like to give this a whirl and would love to hear some tips and tricks, so I can keep the meal plans cost effective. Currently, I shop the ads and try to save everywhere I can, but with a family of 5 (soon to be 6) I need both time and $ saving meals!

Are there any websites or blogs you prefer or find good information?

I realized this could be so helpful to both me and my famiy. I have the freezer space, so why not use it?

I have been tossing around this idea for a while. I am thinking about putting a freezer in my dining room. We live in an apartment.

There is a cookbook called 'Once a month cooking' by Mimi Wilson and Marybeth Lagerborg. I have it and loved it. It spells everything out for you from grocery lists to cooking everything for 1 month in a single day. What size containers you need.....EVERYTHING.

We have a family of 7. And for awhile I had a job that was full-time plus. So I doubled everything in the book and it worked really well. Check-list was on the fridge and the first one home made the meal.

Now, I work part-time and am home more. Plus we had two graduate and are never home. So i don't do it as often, but I still like the theory of it and will cook ahead for busy weeks.

Good Luck.

Thanks Amy and Arttie! I'll look into the links and the book. If I can get a list, I'm going to give it a try. I think overall it will be really helpful:)

I would love to give this a try. I waste so much time and money going to the store almost daily. I am sometimes too tired after work to think of anything to make. This would be great so any tips would be very welcomed.

I have the once a month book that Arttie mentioned and like it a lot. I don't have a lot of time to do the cooking on the prep days so I got two different colors of tiny post-its. One color marks the pages where I don't actually have to cook, just mix and bag the ingredients. (everyone we know loves the cranberry chicken recipe.) The other color marks slow cooker appropriate recipes. Then, if there is a particular favorite I put a star on the post-it. Another good one...Don't panic dinner's in the freezer.

Prayer costs nothing, but is worth the most.
