Just scheduled a pre-exam for cataract surgery this morning-Both eyes-I've had "snow-flake" cataracts for ions. My Dr. will also correct my vision so NO more glasses!
Anyone gone through cataract removal procedure?
I'm doing on line research and it sounds pretty cut and dry-No pun intended!

ditto, no surgery for cataracts but I did have RK to repair my near-sightedness vision, about 12+ years ago... I loved being able to see & drive w/o glasses... but then a horrible thing happened... I got old(er) and fell into the wonderful world of little old lady vision and have been wearing reading glasses... oh joy! Sucks to get old!, My advice, don't get old! lol! Your surgery will go fine.. my mom had it in her 70's,, easy peasy...

I'm praying, too, Melody! I can't wait to hear your report of good news once you've had it done, and to celebrate with you! Hugs - Nini

Hi Melody, I had cataract surgery about 10 years ago. It was amazing! My Dr. had told me I'd know when I wanted it done and he gave me stronger lenses for a while. But it got to the point where I was scared to drive at night. I went in to the near-by hospital and had local anesthetic, and was there a couple of hours. Though I like to think I am good at staying calm, my blood pressure went up a bit, but it was done so fast that it was amazing. I was told to wear dark glasses for a while. I had been told the effect would be very quick but didn't really notice much until I took off the dark glasses for my first after-treatment eye drops a couple of hours later. Then wow! You will not believe how beautiful colors are! One eye was done and then there was an awkward couple of weeks waiting for the second, when glasses worked on one eye and weren't needed for the other. I had worn glasses since I was 12 years old and being able to see without them was incredible! Susan

Melody - my mother just had this surgery too and it is miraculous without a doubt. She has worn "pop-bottle" thick glasses since second grade and is now into her 70's...she no longer needs glasses of any kind! It is so funny to watch her reach her hand up to adjust glasses that are no longer there - it was such a habit for her. I'm sending prayers for blessings upon your surgery and for your recovery.

Thank you ladies for all the encouragement!
I'm a little scared though...I did some research on my eye Dr. and discovered he had a very poor rating for the exact same procedure I am going in for (Feb.) Now, I am wondering if I should consult another Dr.

I would DEFINITELY consult another doctor, Melody! That would have me shaken up a bit, too. Always better safe than sorry. You only get one pair of eyes - you want the best you can get handling them! Please keep us posted! Hugs - Nini

YES! Find another doctor - the place where I took my mother does 5 of these procedures an hour and have perfected it. We purposely traveled to a bigger city to get it done where it is more common...here in our little area, the physician who does it only does a few a month.
I'm with Nini - one pair of eyes and no room for poor ratings...
