I know it is not in true farmgirl spirit...but I really like having a dishwasher....I did learn to make my own dishwasher tablets and posted the recipe over on my blog. I would love to hear from others - why do you like having a dishwasher or why do you not like it?

I love my dishwasher! Dishes are sterilized on a daily basis here by it. It does a superb job cleaning them as well. Now if it would only put them away for me when it is done!

My new kitchen came with a dishwasher. I find that I still enjoy washing my daily dishes by hand but I've discovered that I love it for washing antique dishes and pots and pans I bring home as well as the buckets, etc. from milking my cows. I will check out your soap. Thanks!

I like my dishwasher and my husband likes to do the dishes. He also is excellent at emptying the dishwasher as well. Somehow I don't like that job. MB

I do not like dishwashers. When I was a kid, my sister, brother and I would wash dishes together which created many arguments about who would wash, who would dry and who would put away. No one liked to wash, so I, the oldest, said I would wash everytime. That did not stop my sister and brother arguing about who would dry and put away. Their arguments became so loud that it disturbed my dad's TV viewing. (This was before tape, DVR and NetFlix.) So I told them to get out of the kitchen and I did the dishes all by myself. I washed, wiped, put away, cleaned the counter and table and swept the floor. All this took me 30 minutes. I wonder to this day whether or not my sister and brother colluded to get out of doing dishes. After I left home, they had a dishwasher for a few months and GUESS WHAT. My brother and sister argued about who would load and unload it. My dad disconnected it and made them do dishes by hand.

I do not like the way the dishes feel after being taken out of the machine. Oftentimes the dishes have to be pre-washed so that they come clean in the machine. I like to wash dishes by hand. For me it is a time for meditation and I really know I have accomplished something when I see the dishes neatly stacked in the cupboard and the counters clean and shiny.

We bought what we thought was a great dishwasher 8 years ago. We have to prewash so nothing is on the dishes. We think of our dishwasher as a sterilizer but I wonder about just hand washing sometimes. Pots and pans always get hand washed anyway.

I'm curious - how do you make tablets out of your dishwasher soap recipe?

lol!!!! I think the farm girl spirit allows for a bit of lee-way here. ;) Especially since you make your own tabs. I just don't care for a dishwasher, personally, but I can see their usefulness!

Marie, my mother would never ask for help to wash the dishes. She considered it her quiet down time! So as a youth, I never washed dishes!

I love my dishwasher. I had always said that a dishwasher would come in my home before a TV. I still do not own a TV but have had many dishwashers! lol They are sure a blessing when you are entertaining! Mind you, I remember my grandmother and her daughters washing dishes during holiday festivities and it was fun listening to their discussions. I miss my maternal grandmother. Gosh, I seem to be weepy today! lol

I enjoy my dishwashers for plates and every day glass ware, however my wine glasses, pots and pans are washed by hand. It's also great for washing your caning jars!

I have the two legged kind of dish washer. My husband and I do them together. It gives us time to talk and the kitchen gets cleaned up after each meal.

I LOVE my dishwasher. Why? I have enough to do without having to wash the endless dishes by hand, then dry them.
Some times I do hand wash the dishes.

I definitely use our dishwasher regularly!!! I still wash some things by hand on daily basis, but having the dishwasher allows me to keep the daily dish washing to a much more manageable level! And I really appreciate the sterilize feature. Makes me feel better for items that have had raw meat touching them! And I use that feature to get my jars ready for canning too!

We lived in an apartment for 2 years while displaced by a house fire and the kitchen was so small that I used the dishwasher as an extra cabinet and just did all the dishes by hand every day - and it was fine - but with being home and having a full kitchen again, I'm doing much more freezer cooking and canning so the dishwasher is a life saver for me!

I'm a half and half-er. Large pots, pans, boards, sippy cups, and the odd dish gets washed by hand (as long as it hasn't touched meat), but my hands can't take washing everything by hand. Even in a humid climate, they crack and bleed after a week or so of all hand washing. I like that we can rinse a dish and fill the washer as we go. Unloading/reloading is part of my morning routine after breakfast and my toddler really enjoys handing me clean dishes for me to put away in the tall cabinets.

I've found (through renting several different places for years) that the soap has more to do with the need to prewash than the washer. Liquid and gel never seemed to get ours clean and the powdered scent was overpowering for me, so I make my own, though when I'm in a pinch, I really like the seventh generation brand powder. Their dish soap for hand washing also seems to be easiest on my skin, as well as the Homest Company dish soap.

I have that brand of dishwasher, too, Sherone :) We gave up ours because I needed more drawer space! Haven't missed it, honestly.

I must admit that I absolutely love my dishwasher and wouldn’t trade it for the world. I hate to hand wash dishes (I know. Not very farmgirl of me.) There is just something about the water running down my arms. It is like torture. Nails down a chalk board kind of torture. I cannot stand slow water rolling down my arms from my hands!! So I just let my dishwasher do the work for me.

When we bought our house 20 years ago, it had a dishwasher. I wanted more cabinet storage, so I tore it out and custom built shelves and racks for baking pans. So, the dishwasher is me.

Even when I lived in a house with a washer, I didn't use it. I always felt like I was doing double work with having to scrape and rinse before loading. I might as well just hand wash.

Down side is that I loathe washing dishes. I LOVE to cook and I cook a fresh supper for the family every night. My counter stays littered with dishes needing to be washed. I should have started the routine of everyone helping clean the kitchen after we eat. But, I'd much rather hang out with everyone in the living room. So, every morning, I wake up to having to do dishes. Ick.

I am currently without a dishwasher. Like what was said earlier it does give a time reflect on things while doing the dishes. Mine do pile up sometimes when I get busy with other things and then I catch up again.
