Farmgirl Jubilee Opening Statement

The first annual Farmgirl Jubilee was celebrated in 2015, forever more to be held during the first weekend in May. During our special weekend, together in person or online, we celebrate friendships and our connections to our rural roots. It’s when we honor our homes, families, and friends. We celebrate by adding beautiful gardens to urban backyards, by discovering the satisfaction of home-cooked meals made with healthy ingredients, by renewing our commitment to the simplification of our daily lives, by rediscovering outdoor spaces together with friends, and by meeting new friends who inspire us and help us stay the course in meaningful ways. Thank you for joining us. Now it’s time to tie one on … an apron, of course!

Don't be sad Sonja, we'll be celebrating again next May. You have the time to plan and get ready for it. I know I think about it from time to time and what I want to do to add to what I did this year ~~~ clothes pin apron, garden flag, & the herb I planted - winter savory.

Edited to correct a mistyped word.

Sara, I am so glad to hear that. I was afraid that it was only a May event. Going to look for clothes pin apron fabric right now!

Sonja, I meant to say next year. I will edit my post. You have to next May. Sorry if I confused you. Sometimes my senior fingers type the wrong word.

I made my Jubilee apron and denim wrist bracelet. Working on finishing my flag, banner and gnome garden. For next year I want to plant a new herb. So far I'm having luck keeping my current herbs alive.

I will as I finish - I had an interim flag and will post new flag, banner, and gnome garden as soon as finished.

Weii I'm not sure what Jubilee is but it sounds like fun. Looking forward to it! I gather one of the requirements is to plant an herb. I planted a pot of oregano a couple of weeks ago and its almost doubled in size. My bunnies love it!

Laura, a little bit of Jubilee history for you. Other FarmGirls will add to what I have to say.

Last spring the talk around the Farm was about MaryJane's upcoming birthday on May 6. One thing led to another and the Jubilee was born in a way to celebrate her birthday and I like to think we are also celebrating the FarmGirl way of life.

Growing herbs is not a requirement ~~~ some of us FarmGirls did so to celebrate. It's a choice we all can make for ourselves. I grew winter & summer savory and made a special label for it

The clothespin apron did become the official apron. MaryJane posted the apron pattern and I used mine to earn a merit badge in Sewing & Crafting.

Some of the fun things we did were: flag aprons, sun bonnets, garden flags, mini-gardens~~~~anything that we wanted to do to celebrate and others FarmGirls if they chose did the same.

The more I remember the more I am looking for to Jubilee time again. It was a good time planning and hearing about how others were celebrating.

Thank you for the history Sara!

And what a great idea to celebrate a great lady who has inspired so many, as I have learned over the past few days. In fact, I ordered MaryJane's first book, the Idea Book, a few days ago and I am waiting for it with great anticipation! Amazon just let me know it's been shipped. Yay!

I will be joining in the Jubilee 2016 fun with my new friends. The FarmGirls are just the kind of friends I have been looking for!

Laura,
I believe the plan for Jubilee 2016 is a different theme . . .we celebrated Mary Jane this year. But I don't know what it will be.

I am an "apronista" and I hung aprons all over the place . . . the fence, my mailbox, gate at end of driveway, power pole, house, etc. I also did two mini gardens, one with a fairy and one with a gnome. Also made a banner, "official" aprons, one for a gift and one for a farmgirl giveaway.

Nothing required . . .except to have fun!
Welcome to the Connection, have a grand time here

Yep. I made 3 official aprons - for me and 1 for the other two chicks in my henhouse. And I made a banner (I'm making another), and we met and had a henhouse jubilee celebration. I also gave an apron and homade cookies to my neighbor. It was such fun. Can't wait to see what next year brings to jubilee.

Being new to the Sisterhood (8/10/15)and hobby farming, I am looking forward to learning many new things and hoping for advice as I go. Thank you Winnie for the welcoming card I received in the mail. Having moved to West Virginia 2 months ago I am still learning a slower way of life. I do know where my sewing machine is but haven't used it in a while, so I will get the apron pattern and add that to my winter project list.I am learning to can tomatoes and I am not sure I am ready for all of this yet. I think it will be better once everything is unpacked.I can't wait to see what next years theme is.
