I have a while before purchasing a travel trailer is even an option but we have started looking around now so that we know what is available and prices so we are ready when we can purchase. We would love to get one as soon as we get back to the states but we may be buying a house and will need to wait until after that (depending on where we go).
My problem? I have four kids and none of the travel trailers I find sleep six!! Especially not the cute vintage looking ones! We found one we really like but it only sleeps four. It looks like one from the 70s with checkerboard floors and a red couch and red striped curtains and bedding. It is SO CUTE! But I really need it to sleep six. We talked about an RV but they are much more expensive and even for one of those that sleeps six we are getting into a much larger and much more expensive version.
Thoughts? Ideas? I'm at a stage in my life where any "glamping" will be done with kids so equipment must accommodate them.

Sometimes I have seen families use a. Tent for the older kids in addition to the trailer. our trailer was tiny and it did great until the kids weren't little any more. Good luck.

The first thing that came to my mind was a tent, but I completely understand why you wouldn’t want to do that. Hopefully you can find the perfect trailer to fit you all and meet your needs. Who knows maybe the perfect sized and priced trailer will pop up when you’re back in the states!

We camped in tents (family of 7) when I was a child. Eventually, my parents picked up a 16-foot DeVille trailer and it slept all of us. https://www.google.com/search?q=16+foot+deville+trailer&biw=1607&bih=792&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiLqY-Mtu3KAhUPyWMKHeITAJIQsAQIGw&dpr=0.85 Parents on the seat cushions in the rear that pulled together at night, baby brother in the hole that created, two canvas bunks above parents and baby brother for my older brothers (bunks that rolled up during the day--stored in a side bay), and then my sister and me on the dinette cushions in the front that pulled together at night. Happy as clams we were. My mother loved the kitchen it had (prior to the trailer, she cooked our meals over a campfire). So a little trailer can sleep quite a few people.

Oh wow those are super cute!! I'm not completely opposed to tent camping but my littles are too little to help much, plus we have food issues that would be SO MUCH easier to deal with if we had a kitchen. Also we have so many people that we don't have much cargo room in any vehicle, especially if we bring the dog. I do think it is possible some could be on air mattresses on the floor....or we could retrofit something maybe. Hubby wants to convert an old school bus but the reality is we just don't have time to put into something like that!

You would definitely be setting a new trend with a bus! I would love to see it all completed if you end up choosing that route!

I'm iffy on a pop up......but IDK I'm just starting to look so won't rule it out. On the other hand I just looked up glampers on the loose on FB and after just a few min of browsing I now want to buy a vintage camper to fix up....along with a vintage vehicle to pull it! LOL

This is our little 1971 Sprite, 10 ft. the "Reiver's Rest". As you can see it's very tiny! Just wanted to share with you. I'd love a vintage vehicle to pull it with too, but I'm happy to have my 2005 GMC Envoy to do the job! My daughter, Robin on the right and my glamper doggie, Bramble! CJ

That is awesome!! I told hubby that needs to be our new hobby, finding and old camping trailer and vehicle to restore! He told me to "start writing" (to pay for it, that is now his answer to everything that cost money since I am attempting to "write for a living" somehow). Guess we will see what happens when we move back to the US, I have a year to dream and plan!

Sobyn: I meant that we let the kids sleep in a tent under a canopy screen house attatched to the trailer. That way you are not so far away.

I recall, (heaven help me! lol!) seeing several ?1980's? trailers with bunkbeds near the rear...4 bunkd and the front sofa pulled out into a dbl bed... I will search around and see if I can find out who the company was... but I am thinking it might have been Fleetwood... you might want to google 'camping trailers with bunk beds'... Good luck and how smart you are to start researching now. Wagons Ho and a Glamping we will Go!
