I canned some zucchini pineapple and tomatoes today. I didn't have enough jars to fill two canners so I looked up how to can water. I read it is a great way to stock up on water for electrical outages which happen in Ks in the winter. I am determined to have something in every jar I own this fall. So far I have canned tons of jelly, tomatoes, apple sauce, pears, stewed apples, zucchini pineapple, dried cabbage, dried celery, dried apples, and froze peppers. Seems like I have more things, but don't think so. I want to try to do the cake in a jar and ?????? Anyone want to share what they like to can, dry can, dehydrate, etc? I still want to dehydrate carrots and potatoes. Maybe even can some potatoes and meat.

I love to help my mom do salsa! I am not a big fan of hot salsa so we make me some sweet salsa. It's delicious!

Cake in a jar sounds like a health risk and that was before I quickly researched it. I thought this was on point:

Katie... You grow your own beans? I have a small victory garden in the backyard. I having been trying to grow green beans for a couple of seasons now. First year it was great. Fresh beans off the vine are so yummy. Second and third attempt...nuttin'. They just aren't growing. I asked around my area and others are having the same problem. I'll keep trying.

Hi Nancy, yes, my garden does well with green beans. I'm trying drying beans for the first time this year. More on that in a month or so. I'm having a terrible time with blight. I had it my first year and it just gets worse each year. My tomatoes look pathetic. They're covered in tomatoes which I should be happy about but they have hardly any stems. What is happening to your beans Nancy? Bugs or fungus?

My tomato leaves are turning yellow. Tried different watering, no improvement. Lots of tomatoes though. :)

9 jars of peach jam! First time for Peach. I used MJ's Chill-Over powder, and followed another sister's advice to let the jam sit for a few minutes to keep fruit from floating. I think it helped a little. The jam tastes great. I am really enjoying using the Chill-Over powder.

Sounds like blight. If you pull the stems do they break right off? Are there dead and brown leaves/stems at the base of the plant? It's a nasty fungus and the bad thing is once you have it its very hard to get rid of. It seems to live in the soil forever. I'm going to try to things to amend the soil over the fall. Wait and see, that's all I can do. Enjoy your tomatoes though. There is nothing like a homegrown fresh tomato, especially that first one!

Katie, the little bit I had left and just put into the fridge set up perfectly. Last year I used Chill-Over for several jellies: violet, wild black raspberry, dandelion and honeysuckle. They all ended up perfect. I hope you give it a try. I used MJ's and Allie's Strawberry Jam recipe. Next time I will maybe be sure to have just a little of the peach juice in each jar. Peaches still floated just a little. But they are already set.

Wow, Judith! We just had enough to have our first tomato sandwiches for dinner last night, LOL. But with the little bit of rain we had yesterday and a nice hot sunny day today, they'll be sure to ripen quicker than I can, I'm sure. Great job!!!
