Does anyone celebrate St. Patrick's day and what do you do. We were married on that date and it will be 55 years this year. Gosh it went fast.

Congratulations, Bonnie! 55 years! You and your husband are absolutely inspirational!!! 'Just thrilled for both of you!!!
We celebrate with traditional food and music, and we watch some Irish and St. Patrick historical documentaries. We used to do more fun family things when our son was little. (We're not nearly as cool now, in his eyes, as we used to be! LOL!)

Bonnie, my oldest sister was married on St. Patrick's day too! Congratulations on having a 55 year mark to celebrate this year! Yes, indeed, the time sure flies by quickly and seems to fly faster the older I get!! LOL!! How does that happen???

Congrautlations of 55 years! How wonderful!!
In our family, St. Patrick's Day is always busy. We try to celebrate with a traditional meal. However, my "night" job (I'm a music teacher by day) is as a Highland Dance teacher. It may be Scottish dance instead of Irish but our dancers still keep busy. It's all Celtic, afterall. This year we're actually down in shows because I'm cutting back a bit on the business, but my dancers have 4 shows in March and probably the local parade.

We definitely celebrate the day since we are both Irish. Me on my dad's side and hubby on his mom's. So we've always celebrated. Meals and music for us.

WE usually have corned beef and veggies, which we are doing today. We have some Irish friends (O'Brien is the last name) who are coming over for supper. I'm making homemade corned beef as per Mary Jane's recipe from a few years ago. Carmen is bringing homemade Irish Soda Bread. We'll have ice cream with homemade shortbread (I know . . .that's Scottish, but it's already made!)

Happy Anniversary! Lovely! Big hugs to you both.
As for St. Patty's, I have on a green shawl I knitted with a green vintage broach. I am making corned beef, cabbage (and got an extra cabbage for my chickens to play with), MaryJane's recipe for soda bread, peas with pearl onions, and potatoes for dinner. I will use my grandmother's linen hand embroidered tablecloth tonight (it's got green). For dessert, vanilla ice cream with Thin Mint cookies, and Irish coffee. :)
We will probably watch a movie, so I am thinking something set in Ireland. Like the one with Amy Adams, Leap Year. Cute movie.
That's our St. Patty's.

Thank you all so much for the good wishes. I have to laugh though because my husband doesn't like cabbage. We went out to eat at a wonderful restaurant called the Log Cabin. It is east of Forest lake , Minnesota. The decor is like a log building up in Alaska. The food is delicious. We both had shrimp. We always wear green and the shamrock bracelet my dad brought me from Ireland. I also wear the claddagh ring my husband gave me. Lots of people in Minnesota celebrate St. Patrick's day too and although we don't drink, others celebrate .

Bonnie, after years gone, I now saw your post. I'm hoping that you and your dear husband will be celebrating will be celebrating 56 years together this St. Patty's
Day. I am not at all Irish but on St. Paddys Day aren't we all Irish. I am English and Protestant. In my mothers world and neighborhood you wore green if you were Catholic. Because we were not Catholic, we all wore orange. Lots of us wore orange, and had to explain all day about why we were in orange.
My husband is Scottish and Irish. No more orange. Now I wear the shamrock necklace he bought for his mother, and I make smoked butt, potatoes, cabbage and green beans every year. I am much happier without orange.

Joey I had to look up the reason for the orange and green! Lol! I am not Catholic but we always wore green growing up to avoid getting pinched! Never realized the significance of the colors. Interesting history. I do have Irish ancestry.

Deb, apparently my grandmother did this too. I recently spoke with an aunt who remembers wearing orange to school too. I always just wanted to be green like everyone else although our whole church wore orange and so did many of my neighbors. Did anyone else have to wear orange?

Wow, you gals remembered all the way from last year! Thanks for all the wonderful feedback from last year. I was adopted and had my Dan done. What a surprise, I am Scots, German, Norwegian and Cherokee. But of course I will celebrate anyway.

Yes, we do acknowledge St. Pattys. I have a few decorations: my vintage tablecloth that is embroidered green , made by my grandmother, a shamrock candle holder, and a few other “littles”. I usually make a nice “Irish” dinner. I always make MaryJane’s soda bread recipe, it is my favorite. Then I serve either Corned beef and cabbage (not “true” Irish) or my Irish Stew. This year it will be Irish Stew. :)
We usually watch a good movie. A favorite is the rom com “Leap Year”.
A bit corny, maybe, but we all enjoy it.

Joey,
We are both Irish and Scottish on my dad's side and my husband is Irish on both sides. We wear the orange because we are not Catholic.
I always do the Irish meal and Celtic music is listened to year round for us. 
I know some do not know the real story of St. Patrick but if anyone is interested there is a book titled, "Let Me Die in Ireland" that has excellent information on the real Patrick. I'm also sure most know that Patrick was not Irish, he was English.

My boys usually make a leprechaun trap every year in hopes to catch a wee little folk... they've not yet captured one, however, I believe those traps are an open invitation for those little wee folk to pay us a mischievious visit... they turn our potty water green, our milk green a couple different times, they love the toilet paper rolls and string them out the bathrooms and down the halls. They mix match our shoes, they get into our salt and pepper shakers and spill them on the counters and then walk through it and make a mess, they have put toilet paper rolls on top of our lamp shades, opened up all the cupboard and cabinet doors, They love to move things around in silly places and dropped shamrocks and chocolate coins. The boys have fun with it!

I am so glad you all had such a good time for St. Pats day. I am not Catholic but my dad was so we always wore green. My dad would walk in the parade downtown St. Paul. For him it was a big deal. My mom didn't cook Irish foods though.
Yes we celebrated our 56th anniversary this year. We always get a Shamrock plant.
