Hi Farmgirls! I hope I'm posting this question in the correct place, and I hope some of you have the info I'm looking for. I know that if anyone does, Farmgirls do!
What is the best method for washing my reusable/recyclable bags? I have to admit I have been using the same collection of BAGS for my groceries for YEARS and have not washed them. Some are stinky! Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I wash my zip lock bags with the dishes. For a large number of bags, I would put them in a pail with dish soap and water, agitate, rinse and hang on a line. This is for plastic bags.

Thank you for your reply. I have two large ones made of heavy canvas (they are Thirty One Bags) and then a variety of others that are made of a lighter canvas material, and the tag in one of them says this:

Thank you for the great advice on washing the plastic bags! I'm about to invest in some of the durable reusable ziplocks and I'll wash them this way. Have a great day!

I agree with Marie. Soak them in a pail of water and soap. You may even want to take a small soft scrub brush inside and out side rinse real well and let them air dry. Sunshine kills germs too. Hang them outdoors for a bit in the drying stage.

You should wash anything made from recycled plastic containers (a.k.a. polypropylene bags) by hand in warm soapy water and line dry it.Feb 26, 2014

Thanks so much! I will be working on this little project this weekend. I think the suggestion of using dish soap is great! I will also hang them to dry in the sun. You're right...nothing gets smells and germs out like good ol' sunshine!
