Grace glad your seedlings are thriving.

My niece went to Kelly's plant, fruit, & veg stand and bought me a basil plant & mix-flower hanging basket. Thankfully Lamar Country never closed nurseries and PF&V stands. I planted the basil between the English & lemon thyme plants. Saw a honey bee on the chive flowers. My window box sage and English thyme are also blooming. The Sarah lavender is setting bud.

Been working on putting together the tumbler composter I got from Aldi. Will keep it on back deck so it's handy to the kitchen. Should make enough compost for my needs. The tumbler composter is so well engineered it's simple to put together. It was made in Israel and Israel is noted for it's fine engineers.

I have read that the tumble composers work much faster than the old fashioned compost piles.

Judith I hope so. It holds 18 gals and I've already put 2 gals of parings in it. Been saving up the parings.

Winnie "RedTractorGirl" gifted me a pkg of zinnia seeds which I sowed in a container on back deck. Can't wait to see their beautiful faces.

Sara,, lucky you to have an Aldi's near by..
Recently they had little patio Green houses for $20... I had one several years ago...
Not real sturdy,, but not a bad deal for $20... mine lasted 3 years before the zipper gave out...

Grace I saw that little green house. The one thing I don't like about Aldi is they may not have the item in every store. I order something and they don't have it in Paris. This was true even before the virus shut us down. Aldi has done good to keep their shelves stocked. May not be the day you want it but in a day or two it'll be there.

These red parrot tulips are so huge this year, this one I'd bigger than my hand.

I love the color of these.

I love love the parrot tulips Julie!! I saw some at the botanical gardens last year in Birmingham and wanted to plant some here but I dont have an area for them! Now I must try and find a place!!
My garden WAS doing great but last week those darn army worms are beginning to eat away at my zinnia and dahlias and a few other flowers. I needed them but th as t didnt do any good, then lightly dusted the soil underneath in a de mix. Still not working!! Whar to do? I've a 1/2 acre of flowers!!! :(

Dianna I hope you find something that works on the army worms. An 1/2 acre of flowers is wonderful. You must have plenty of bees & butterflies.

I let all my herbs go to flower this year because we have fewer bees & butterflies each year. So far I've only seen a hand full.

Sara, the bee population barely exists here! I'm so upset and hate using ANYTHING that will hurt the bees! Butterflies are numerous tho. Like you I let my herbs flower last year and the pollinators loved that. I'll do the same thing this year. I'm so sad. Lots of flowers, organic flowers from seed and soil but few bees.:(

I'm putting in another raised bed today. Cement block at the bottom of a hill to help divert the water that is washing out my firepit.

My Mom & I have been collecting wildflowers from the edges of the roadways. The county mowers will be out any time now and just mow them down. We've been putting them in on my hill to cut down on erosion and bring bees & butterflies to my garden.

I've got columbine, wild daisy, periwinkle and woodland pinkroot.

Awesome Deb!! I've been collecting wildflowers too, what few there are and like you as they begin to dry and go to seed I've got them scattered around our pond plus on a hill also for erosion and the pollinators! My brain is always on go as to what I can do to help! ( I love periwinkle but it's too hot here for it)

Harvested MJF garlic this morning. Must say pulling garlic in my raised bed where I don't have to bend over was a joy. If they were in the ground I would still be out there pulling garlic. Have the garlic laid out on work table in Yellow Rose Cottage. I planted 38 cloves of garlic last fall and they all made bulbs - am so happy. Will read up on braiding garlic and decide if that is something I want to attempt, or if I will hang them whichever way I can get it done.

Garlic is now tied and hanging - not braided. Directions said to cure garlic for 3 weeks in cool place like a barn or outside building. Well, my Yellow Rose Cottage is 100+ by August so that's out. There's 6 bunches of garlic hanging on shower rod in the bathroom I use to feed and water Annie. There's an air vent close to the rod so it will be cool. I know by the end of the three weeks my whole house will reek of garlic hopefully the garlic will keep in the pantry for months.

Since there's still some soil on the garlic I put a sheet over the edge of the tub & on the floor so there'll be less cleanup. What us FarmGirls won't go through to have our own homegrown herbs & veggies.

Thanks Dianna, if you will be ordering garlic I can recommend checking out MaryJane's garlic when it comes available later in the summer or early fall. I hope to have my own garlic to plant but if not I will order from MJF again.

Sara & Dianna,,, I have noticed a big drop this year over last year of Bees... still no Mason bees... I had a lot of Bumble bees,, and those tiny bees,,, but hardly any reg/honey bees...
Same with the humming birds,, only 3 so far.... I usually have 5-7 at a given time....
But I did notice more butterflies..
I have planted all kinds of plants to attract hummers, bees and flutterbyies... maybe they are just running late... I hope.
