Strawberry is my other hope for summer growth! I'm not a green thumb but I love trying! My Sunflowers bloomed and I used them for the table at the Ladies luncheon! It is so rewarding to use the things I grow or make! Mulberry trees used to grow at the trailer park I lived in and I had every mother making treats for our families one year! What fun and memories it was!

We have blackberries growing like crazy in our backyard. So glad to see this!

Well,, I didn't get to do some of the things I wanted,, for our Herb Garden Jubilee... but I do have seeds sprouting for my chives, parsley & basil... I bought a 4" seedling of pineapple sage...
I still need mint, thyme, oregano and orange or lemon geranium, oh and either cat mint or cat nip... mustn't forget my feline fur kid.......

How is your herb gardens going?

We planted a catnip plant two days ago and put a plastic crate over it as we have always done. That way, when it grows, the cats can eat any that grows out of the holes in the crate without destroying the plant. Today I went out to the catio to do some weeding and the crate was moved and the catnip was gone. I repented it with the remaining plant and DH pinned the crate down with tent pegs. Reminds me of the old saying about catnip: "If you set it cats will get it. If you sow it cats won't know it".

Judith great tip on how to cover catnip so cats can eat it but not destroy it.

The yellow container rose bush Ron's Choice I planted for our 2020 Jubilee is budding for the first time. Checked on it and my other 3 container yellow roses. Republic of Texas is in full bloom. Mrs Oakley Fisher and Rise & Shine are budding. May have them in bloom together for the very first time.

Years ago, a friend gave me a start of her chocolate mint. I really liked it. Notice past tense. Turned out my cats did to and ate it all to destruction.

Going to hop right in here with everyone! I've finally gotten most of the garden planted and today was my herb day planting! My chives and chocolate mint are growing hog wild already as is my lavender and regular mint all from last year. Sage, basil, parsley, dill and fennel went into the ground today. Its gorgeous outside! The pollinators lived the sage last year and the monarch caterpillars loved the milk weed and dill from last year so hopefully they will come again.

Terri, my cat has never bothered my mint and I know there are ferrel cats as well. So I'm lucky! Judith, super duper idea not just for the catnip but some of my other plants as well. At least while they are young! Rabbits keep eating the tops off my okra.

Dianna you have quite the herb garden. I always like to see what winters over and comes back. I've only grown fennel once and it was when I had three chickens. I bought one plant and it was in a pot on the deck. The chickens found it and ate it.

Still can't get cat nip/mint around here,, nor any of the flavored mints,, just peppermint and sweet mint.. I would have to travel into town.. but it's not that big a deal...
If you haven't tried planting Pineapple sage,, oh, you just must! it is fabulous and the butterflies and hummers LUV it!...
Here in the INW, it is an annual.. but in warmer climates, it grows all year long.

Grace I've grown pineapple sage but don't have it now. You're right it's delicious and attracts bees and butterflies.

Grace I get a lot of wind too - here in northeast TX it blows most days. This is the 2nd year for raised beds so the herbs are close enough together to shield the soil from the wind. All except for your borage which is still a wee seedling and it's been battered a bit.

Sara,, I have 4 Borage plants that are struggling from the winds.. but are hanging in there..
Of my 4 Basal seedlings I lost 2.. and now my chives are getting whimpy... but I still have seeds so I can re-start them if need be.

Was suppose to rain today so I didn't water.. but it never did, and now the dark clouds are coming in....once again the weather peeps said it will rain in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.. hoping they are right this time..

we were promised rain for the last four days. Gosh, it rained like crazy today. Can't plant herbs in Minnesota until Memorial day. It might snow.

Sara, I wish I had chickens to eat my fennel! lol, I wouldn't mind really.
Grace, my borage is thriving luckily after getting hit with those straight winds and tornado a couple weeks ago I thought I would even lose my sunflowers coming up but everything hung on in the garden! Thankfully!!! I'm on my way out yet again to plant POTS now full of seeds, my edible flowers! I'm not sure what I love the most although the nasturtiums are SO TASTY! have a safe beautiful weekend in your neck of the woods!!!!

Grace,

Careful what you wish for.
Thanks for the tee hee. I haven't herd "fiddles" in some time.
May it rain just enough to help your heart bloom with joy.

Our blackberry vines held up in the fierce winds and storms.

The irises and roses have bloomed beautifully.

Happy Jubilee! This is my very first! Many blessings and much joy to you all!

Keep shining!
