Hi girls -

How is everyone doing? What are you doing to keep busy during this outbreak? Isn't this insane?! All I can think is how a few years ago so many people scoffed at those "crazy Doomsday Preppers." I wonder how "crazy" they seem to people now!

The news is definitely disconcerting and worrisome, but we're FARMGIRLS! We KNOW how to make the best of our "free" time! A friend texted me yesterday to tell me how ungodly bored she is. I told her that, for me, this quarantine situation is a blessing because I can finally get to all those projects I've had to put off due to our crazy schedule!

I've been SUPER busy and SUPER grateful for this regular life hiatus. I've been able to do a few canning projects, made some red cabbage sauerkraut and pickled eggs. I'm cleaning out the leftovers in the freezer for dinner surprise smorgasbords (every day is an adventure!). I've cleaned out and reorganized some overstuffed cupboards. I've planned out my Christmas and other gift projects this year and have started making some cards. I'm planning to reorganize my pantry cupboards soas to take an inventory and make room for this year's canning projects. I'm working on moving my craft room downstairs to the man cave to re-open a guest room (will need my son and his buddies to help with that, so it may be a while!). And I've even started working on plans to expand our garden. I feel farmgirl-human again! It's a wonderful thing! LEMONADE!!!

Love you girls! I know it's hard... Hang tough! We ARE going to get through this! Stay healthy and farmgirl-y! Be HAPPY!

Hugs -

Nini

P.S. And always remember:

I agree time to get things done. We have 6 cows to calve yet, so watching them and the babies. Making maple syrup. Cooking today. I worked on a quilt top. Tumbler blocks, that is all scraps, so nothing fancy. I had it made for a twin bed, and the twin bed is gone. Making it into a king size to use on our bed. Have to cut 113 more blocks, then start sewing. I transplanted my tomato and broccoli and cauliflower. I made bread, and danish apple bars this weekend. I am still working, unless that changes. So plenty to do, as always. Hang in there everyone. Stay Healthy.

Nini & Michele I see you are doing what FarmGirls do - keep it between the ditches and supper on time. Both of you are so busy!

I have been on "house arrest" since Feb so being at home is the same old same old for me. I can't take the flu shot because of MS so I do it every year during flu season - this year it's just been longer.

So far I have done a little deep cleaning - very little - but some. Worked on wool project; made pillow for front porch bench; decorated front porch for spring; sewed yo-yos on doily for our up-coming Jubilee; read cookbooks; visited with sisters; weeded raised beds; you get the idea - nothing new just what I normally do.

I have had my groceries delivered for a year now so when the virus happened I was all set. On-line I can see what is out of stock and see what I can use instead. I have never been one to go to the grocery store just for one item. I grocery shopped once a week at one store and bought for the week and backups if on sale. I still do that but now they are delivered. My pantry is always full so if something is out of stock I can find something in my pantry to make do.

Now Annie is another story. She has gotten use to me being in all the time and she thinks I am here to entertain her. If she isn't wanting me to play throw & fetch with her she is sitting in my lap - all 53 lbs. On sunny days she spends most of time outside but lately those days are few & far in-between.

Awww! Michele! Baby cows! Melt my heart! My son had his first experience holding and feeding baby calfs at his girlfriend's parents farm just recently. He was absolutely in love! How exciting! What a testament to hope: welcoming new life into the world! If you're able, please post pics!!!

My dad and my sister's godfather used to go up to Maine to make maple syrup when we were kids. There's nothing like homemade maple syrup slowly simmered in a kettle over an open fire! Mmmm-M! I would love to learn how to do that someday! How awesome that you do! Enjoy!!!

Oh, Sara! Our Bella is the same way. She loves her walks with Daddy around the block, but it's Mommy who is the most fun! Lol. She has barely left my feet since we've been stuck in the house. It's so hard because we usually walk her everyday around the lake at our local park no matter the weather (at least half way around, anyway!), and she has been begging for our daily trip at the same time every afternoon. I just wish I could explain to her that I haven't forgotten, we just aren't allowed out at the park right now! Poor dear sweet baby girl. Her big sad eyes just break my heart! We will go out again as soon as possible, for sure!

Sounds like the farmgirl spirit is alive and well! Yes! Can't wait to hear what everyone else is up to!

Hugs,

Nini

This old holler Girl is doing great. We barely have to go to town as hubby is retired as of March 20. We planted potatoes onions and lettuce today. Walking our dogs twice a day---we have 172 private acres to walk on---plus hundreds of acres around us with no on to be seen. God has blessed us for sure by allowing me to inherit this place. We could stay here for ten years and never tame this wild old hippie type place. The animals need care. We read and have hobbies---both love to cook and garden. And a good nap never hurt anyone. So glad to hear of all you all do---praying for you--those in NYC and all hot spot cities. Take CARE and post many happy thoughts. Watch Dolly Partons message---she is a child of GOD for sure. Ladies--most of us will survive this---I am obeying rules as I want to see another spring. And why are people lonely---they stare at their phones when with people. Use your talents ladies to find amusement and lets all stay in our homes. Dear ladies---I just watched a murder on ID channel about people living in a holler and were murderers. Children---my holler is private---I do not tolerate rednecks. LOL and love to all. Rock on and inspire us in your coping in this crisis. Sorry---CNN---the trusted name in news. I may get thrown off of here---but I know we all need the truth in this crisis.

Our area got locked down really, really early. We are a suburb of NY and our schools and town locked down before anyone else it seems. We have been keeping busy and exhausted by end of day! Farmgirls know what to do!

DD has been doing school online, DH working from home, and me? Keeping busy. Cooking all the time, working on the garden and yard, and I even painted my kitchen and laundry room! I have a bunch of mending to tend to, and various knitting and craft projects. It gets me how many people say they are bored!

It's good to hear that you all are keeping busy and reasonably well during this weird time in our lives. We are pretty isolated in Wyoming, though there have been 6 deaths in the States and 6 cases in our county.

I have been working from home for the first time in my life. What a huge change this has been for me!I must say that I have been embracing it nicely, though. I have started a daily Work from Home Observation post on Facebook, where I report on what is happening outside my window. This is helping me to enjoy the spring weather.

I have to be honest, though. My fibromyalgia has been so bad this spring. There have been days where I have not even been able to get out of bed. It's actually been a blessing that I've been working from home. I probalby would have been fired for taking too many sick days. We are also working through some estate planning issues with our family ranch. There is a lot of emotion involved for everyone. I tend to take on eveyone's feelings, so that burdon is heavy right now.

I'm ready for everything to return to the New Normal, what ever that is going to be.....

I've been sheltering-at-home for almost two months. I'm enjoying working from home, but not the isolation. I've been cleaning and organizing my new place, picking out badges to work on, and trying to practice self-care. Thank goodness farmgirls have enough mental toughness to handle the unexpected. (If you're struggling, mental toughness also includes reaching out and asking for help!)

It is so nice to read about how everyone is doing in their states. Here in Florida things are slowly opening back up. Walmart and Target a jammed packed daily. I don't see many wearing a mask so the surge will go up again I'm afraid. I don't leave the home to go into any store or office.

Sherone I hear you on the fibro issue. Mine is awful too because I usually go to the chiropractor every two weeks for adjustments and laser treatment. That was what kept the pain away. I put my neck and shoulders out last week and the pain was the worst ever. I was tearing fabric strips. I should have known it was going to do damage. I just didn't know it would be that bad.

I'm at the point of finding a new chiropractor in my area. The other one was a 40 minute drive. He was very caviler about the whole issue too. Oh, it's just a scam he said. Well I wonder how he feels now.

Sending everyone a big hug and wishing you good health.

Stay Safe!
Marsha
