Hi everyone!

I haven't been around for a while. I read posts, but haven't been too active anywhere. For years I've talked about 'when we buy a house'. Well, that time is finally here!!

Last month we made two trips to upstate NY to look at houses. We put in offers on a few but were outbid. That was very disappointing, but took it as a learning experience. My husband officially retires Oct 31st, so we are looking for a house and to make the move by that time.

With the pandemic, I thought we'd have an easier time getting a house, but it turns out to be a sellers market, and houses are selling as fast as they are listed. It's been exhausting. So now we are packing up, and hoping that the next house we put an offer on we will get. I don't want to stay in this house we are currently renting any longer than necessary. The rent is now up to $2300 a month, and with landlords' (brother and sister) who do the minimum to keep the place up, it is frustrating.

The trips upstate were breathtaking. When you start to get into the catskill region, the mountain views are magnificent. I started to cry when I saw them, it just took my breath away! We are looking to have a home with a mountain view, and I will be buying a greenhouse (already picked one out) to grow food in. Everything will be so different than how we live now. I've dreamed about this all my life, and now its finally happening.

I can't wait to get back to canning and being in the garden of my dreams. To sit on my porch and share pictures with you all. When I read your posts of canning and gardens I get a little jealous :)
The little bit I grew in pots here were eaten by deer right off my patio. That happens every year and it drives me nuts.

I have a horrible neighbor who is always screaming and has made me miserable ever since she bought the house next door. We even got into a verbal altercation 2 months ago (our first words to each other ever), because the mail man dropped my package at her house in error, she brought it to my house and she started screaming at me! The whole thing was recorded on my outdoor camera. She really is not a well person. I couldn't take it anymore and told her what I thought of her. I couldn't help it, but I won't be verbally abused by no one. That episode upset me for days. I hate to stoop to anyone's level, but I refuse to be a doormat.

I'm an outdoors person and have felt like i'm in prison here, being stuck inside. We literally cannot sit on our back patio, because she is always outside yelling, fighting with her husband, screaming at the kids, or some other dramatic scene going on. Our houses are so close to each other. So I've been really unhappy here for a long time, and this move is something I'm SO looking forward too. Everything will be so different, and I just can't wait.

I can't wait to share with you all the pictures of our new home, once we find one, and finally live the life I've been dreaming about forever, and no more renting!

I can't believe my grandson is 11 months already! We haven't seen them since Christmas because of the pandemic but plan to see him soon for his first birthday which is Sept 19th. It will be hard to move away, but it is what it is.

I hope you all are well and staying safe.
Connie

I know that there is a house out there you are meant to have, so keep hoping and looking. As for neighbor, remember the old Chinese proverb, "If your neighber offends you, buy his children a drum."

Connie,
I'm from upstate. What area are you looking to settle in. I grew up in the Adirondack area. Would love to move back but it is too expensive to live there anymore.
I hope you find your new home soon!

Connie, I am so happy for your. What a joy for you to be able to take the beautiful rides as you look for your forever home. Your new home is out there and when you see it you will know, your heart will know it’s the one for you. Ignore your nasty neighbor, do not let her ruin the journey for you it’s to important, just smile and be happy.
I will be thinking of you and sending happy thoughts your way.

Connie, I’m so excited for you and your new house buying journey. I really hope you find your perfect house soon and can start the life you have always wanted. Don’t stress about your neighbor. You won’t be there much longer. Your grandson is absolutely adorable. I hope he has a wonderful first birthday.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Denise, I was born in Saratoga Springs, but i hear its expensive now. We are looking in Saratoga county, washington county and albany county. Granville is beautiful and very closet to Vermont. I just need a lot of trees around me. We looked at a house in Athol, surrounded by 800 acres of state land, but it was too far from everything and they get a lot of snow. I hate snow, but dont mind some- just not 150" a year LOL. We saw a wonderful house in Hoffmeister, but its only a 3 season house, and again too far north and the snow would be bad.

we saw this house, and offered more than they were asking and were outbid by a cash offer! we were so upset. It has views of 3 different mountain ranges! https://www.trulia.com/p/ny/hartford/35-christian-hill-rd-hartford-ny-12838--2011816931

we LOVE this house, but think the winters would be too harsh: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/292-French-Rd-Hoffmeister-NY-13353/30514407_zpid/ -it had an offer but went back on the market.

Connie, I was born in Saratoga Springs too! Small world isn't it? I grew up in Galway if you have ever heard of it. Very small place. We only have on stop light there even now. My Father's family still live there. His sister will be 100 this year. They sent an invitation for her birthday but I don't know if we will make it. She is the last living of my father's siblings. There were 12 of them.

The Hoffmeister house is lovely- just like a lodge. Beautiful woodwork. The clincher for me was the teal clubhouse - with a stove! I could see myself writing letters or cross stitching there.

Looks like the Hoffmeister house is more like a hunting cabin. It says for 3 seasons of the year. Of course if you are self sustaining winter's wouldn't matter.

The Hartford place sounds great too. I am surprised honestly at the prices since I always thought NY real estate was expensive. Either of those would be a great option.

Connie, that Hoffmeister house could easily be made year round with some ductless mini split systems. And at that price point with that acreage, plus it already has a pellet stove and some propane radiant heaters. They probably have to list it as 3 season because the heat isn't central. I say get the mini splits, a top of the line snow blower and GO FOR IT!!

Hi Lisa, the issue as well with the Hoffmeister house is that its at over 2000' elevation.
